beat a 04 Z04... wtf....
Not trying to say im the best driver in the world or anything but Ive raced 2 Z06s recently. 1 was a 02 with a cartek cam, long tubes, intake. ran from a slight roll and won by half a car, went again from a stop and got him by a car.. Last week I ran into a 04 Z04 (Blue) around my neighbor hood, we went from a light and I put 2 cars on him. He seamed to shift kinda weird. Early into 2nd and barely spun the tires. I just leave the line a 1K rpms with min. spin and flatshift 3rd. Is it just they couldnt drive or is there a difference in a 04? Plus the guy said he had a 02 and it seamed faster. My only mod is Z06 motorsport rims which weigh more then the stocks anyway.

I think they couldn't drive and you are used to getting your car moving with the power you have and the heavier rims. When I had my heavy chrome rims on my car it felt easier to push because I didn't get as much wheel spin and had to do less finessing of the clutch and throttle without breaking loose.

Need more info on the races. Obviously the guy with the cam, LT's and intake has a car that is making alot more power than yours, so you apparently outdrove him. If it was a short 0-60 type run, anything can happen.(same thing with the 04) Had you kept going he'd obviously pull up top with the extra power he has. Is the 04 was also stock? Well than thats obviously anyone's race up top. There is no power difference between an 02 and an 04 Z06...its the same car in terms of a drag race.
Also, I don't see how you are possibly leaving the line at 1krpms on stock tires with minimal spin. I don't think thats possible...

on all the runs, we ran till the top of 4th on the 04 and the top of 3rd in the 02 z06. dunno what you mean about the limited wheel spin off the line. Maybe im just used to the car but ive only had it a month. my 60 foot times were pretty good and the car went 12.500 the way it sits.

How much was the cammed car spinning? I know my car with the cam and bolt ons was very traction limited till 4th gear. Now with even more power it is worse.

I've spent lot of time on the track and I am convinced that most of the Vette owners either can't drive or is afraid to push their car to the limit. I've seen two C6 Z06 running mid to high 12s, seen several C6s running low 13s, several C5 Z06s running high 12s, low 13s, and number of high 13 second C5s.
The negative connotation and perception of "most of the vette drivers suck at driving" is basically true.

I've seen an article in GM high tech performance where they ran 11's with a bone stock car on the stock tires. So I'm sure 11.8 with slicks would be pretty easy with a good driver.

On slicks 11.5x's are possible.

I honestly believe that a LOT of people shift these cars way too soon (as well as too slowly). Especially older guys who don't realize the power is high in the rpm's, or else don't want to "beat" on the car...and this makes a huge difference.
