Default let me decide please strock 2001 z06 or 500hp 1997 coupe

i sold my 600awhp dodge stealth and now thinking about buying c5 corvette. have two choices. one car is here on the forum 1997 500hp black coupe with ~70k on clock and nice condition, build engine and suspension 20k http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1763419
another choices is 2001 stock z06. 70k on clock, seller claims thats in perfect condition, $19500
I never owned c5 corvette, have busy schedule, so i cant check them up myself. How would they compare to eachother. What would be you choice and why? thanks

thanks i totaly agree with you, but why i'm still thinking about coupe? I like fast cars, either one after i buy would get engine mods, dont get me wrong, handlling braking are very important to me as well, but coupe just has so much done to it...build engine, suspension, nice wheels....

The only problem is it's not you. The mods were done by someone else for themself. You may do the same mods, but to me, I like to add the mods myself. It's like watching your kid grow (on a smaller quicker scale). Are there any deals on some 02 Zs? That fixed the oil problem that they had with the 01s, still not quite as good as an 03 or 04, but pretty close.

I would buy the ZO6. It is newer and you can mod it the way you want to

Its one thing to buy a car that has a couple bolt ons, but buying someone heads and cam car is a different story. Odds are the car has no issues and runs strong, but whos to say you will like the package? If you think you will want a different heads/cam or engine setup, buy the stock car and make it what YOU want.

And if its speed you are worried about......the Z06 is lighter and has better transmission gearing. The stock Z06 isn't much slower than that 97 coupe.

After I sold my Twin Turbo'd Firehawk I bought a (mostly stock) '01 Zo6 and I love it.

I passed on a 530 rwhp '99 C5 for similar money.....

Zo6 = Sex.

i was originally going to say the 97 coupe..but i would get the zo6. 97 was the first ls1 vette, so it of course had some issues...and the 500hp thing isnt that fancy..it still only dyno'd 417.. and like SilverSierra said, with the extra stuff the Z has, it will probably be close performance wise to that coupe. and plus, its a zo6

The shorter transmission gearing of the Zo6 is a HUGE advantage, not even considering the horsepower bump of the LS6 engine.

Add a set of headers/cam/pulley..... and you're looking at 400+ rwhp for a minimal investment....

Although the coupe would crush the Z06 I have to agree that it is hard to buy a heavily modded car. There is almost always sure to be some hidden problems that you might not notice right away. You can mod the Z06 the way you want and be pretty fast in a hurry.

They're both nice.. the 97's got not not your run of the mill mods but an LPE forged motor. Aside from the first year being built, the biggest downside w/ the coupe is the weight. Other than that, mechanically it's equal or better. Doesn't sound like the owner was beating on it either..

Sorry to make the decision harder..

I'ed choose the Z06, the 97 coupe's (1st year of the C-5's) had a lot of issues .

You will get a better platform with the Z06 and adding a cold air box, headers, and a tune, you will be close to ~ 400 rwhp.
