keep the vette? or buy a viper?
thinking about something different for next year. im sick of nickle and dime 'in for HP in the ls1. i want to stay NA. im thinking about either getting a LME 454lsx for the vette or sell the vette and get a 2003 viper or a viper gts or acr. it looks people are getting around 600rwhp NA for the 454lsx. the viper has 500hp for the 03 or 450 hp for the gts stock at the crank but it wont stay stock for long. i luv the vette dont get me wrong, ive had it since 2001, but man the viper is so dam sexy looking. any thoughts on my dilema?

Well, I personally like the look of the Viper as well and Ive looked into them a few times. Thats a tough choice. I guess it depends on how much you really like the Vette. Personally I get bored pretty quick with cars. The Viper is a car you dont see around too much which is why I like them, but a 600hp NA Vette would be bard to beat as well.

The Vette with a 454" would be sick! We also do many Viper V10's. With a 520" stroker V10 you would be looking at around 650 at the tire with excellent torque through the entire range.
Eighter setup is killer on the street.

I had the same problem you now have back in '03. I loved the look of the viper and started researching all info I could find. It all came down to 2 things for me. One long ride was enough for me! I had to drive it every day and the heat was to much. You could cook eggs on the shifter console. (slight overstatement) And number 2 - Parts cost. Made the "corvette tax" seem like they were giving away parts. If you just need a weekend cruzer its great but I could not drive it to Walmart and leave it while I bought something. I got a '03 Z06 and never had a regret.

I like the looks of the viper and thats it. Driving it is more of a chore than a pleasure.
On the other hand the new vipers are wicked fast. Only a little slower than the Z06 for $25k more

Depends how tall/fat you are and how much driving you intend to do. If you do a fair amount of driving then I'd keep the Vette. If it's a once in a while car I'd probably do the Viper.
I test drove a Viper before buying my Vette and felt is just wasn't comfortable enough for as often as I'd like be driving.

The Viper tax is nuts !! Not very comfortable either. I drove my car (see sig) to Wiley, TX from Metro Detroit twice and back three times. Never had a complaint about the drive other then being tired.
(drove it back 3 times because my 3rd trip to LG they trailored my car down and I flew in to pick it up and drive home.)

How about this?
Keep the Corvette...
Finance your Viper at a price that you can make some money on...
Once you buy it, invest $800 (advertising) over a few months as you actively sell it.
You'll make money on it in the end, and you've "had" your Viper.
Do the same thing with other cars (Ferrari, etc)

do yourself a favor. keep your vette. I love my vette. I was lucky enough to hae the viper and the vette at the same time. Doller for doller. the vette BLOWS the viper out of the water. The vette blows the viper away in almost everything except in "getting the looks" its a much better riding and driving vehicle. way more forgiving then the viper, all the comfort, cold AC, traction control, ect. My viper was fun for the 5 months I had it but Im glad its gone.

I too really want a viper, but the choice should come down to the intended use. If your gonna drive it on a road course, the choice is simply a z06 hands down, if its gonna be a weekend toy the viper would be fun, but as mentioned before the viper tax is strong.

The Viper tax is now only $1300, and now hands down beats out the Vette. Not trying to start a war, but its good to be back on top again http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...photopanel..1#
Of course its going to take the Vette a SC to be able to compete at this point. Oh and it also now handles better on the track than the Vette.
