Anybody ever used AV100LL
I'm not sure if this belongs here or not.
I was talking to a guy today who said he runs this in his mud truck. He said it cost under $4.00 a gallon when the 100 octane at Sunoco cost $7.xx a gallon. I want to know if it is safe to run it in my car full strength or mix like 3:1 or 4:1 93/100?
If it is just a bad idea I will not use it at all. I mainly want to use it at the track.
Thanks,
Steven

I'm not familiar with the number you posted, but I'd guess it is what most refer to around here as aviation fuel. I've never used the stuff but know a couple people that have and they say you need to add lubrication to the fuel. The couple guys I know were mixing in a measured amount of marvel mystery oil, but I don't remember exactly how much.

No cats off road y pipe. Rear O2's are tuned out.
I do not care about the O2's near as much as I do the motor it's self that is what I am most concered with.
I still do not think I will run it in my car though.

JL I had a friend tell me the same thing. I just thought I would ask no harm in that, but I'm not going to risk it or waste the money.
Thanks for the replies.

Yea, no real gains to be had unless you have a tune for this. And, as previously mentioned, way to much lead in this fuel. Even though its considered (LL) low lead, it still has quite a bit in it. Working with aircraft for many years, I've seen first hand what this fuel does to spark plugs, pistons & rings etc. Cokes them up big time with lead deposits. Can't imagine what it would do to o2 sensors.

I ran a small mix in my trans am for years. Never had a problem with the 02's and the cats were removed. When the engine was taken apart there were no deposits or anything. I dont think I really gained anything because the car wasnt tuned for it but I got it for free since I worked at the airport and then only bought 87 instead of 93.

There are a few good threads on this......
A lot of small airports will no long sell any kind of gas unless it is going directly into an aircraft...... on another note the stuff is ok if you have no more then say a moderate tune but anything crazy I would not trust it.....
In small aircraft you are in the uper 2,000 RPM range and as a rule compression ratio's are not very high compared to some of the higher compression car stuff and it is designed for that.
If I remember right VP Fuels has some good info on why the av gas is not wise in the higher HP stuff.
In short have at it with the lower power/compression/tune motor's but that is about it.

Nobody will ever see any real gain going with a high octane gas unless they run the timing for it.
LL has just as much if not less lead then your average race fuels.
If you are talking about the brown stains you see on the bottom of aircraft those are fuel stains, has nothing to do with the lead..... even jet fuel (no lead) does it..... if it was clear it would be a lot harder for us aeroplane mechanics to notice fuel leaks.
