Default NT05R tire pressure

Hello all. I am new to drag racing. Plan on a trip to the track this Friday and will try airing the tires down this trip in the hopes of a better 60' time. I have been reading around and found differing pressures. Anywhere from 24 psi down to as low as 12 psi. I am concerned about damaging the wheels w/ too low of a pressure, what is too low? How do you identify too low of a psi? What is a good 60' time for a stock suspension w/ the mods in my sig?

I know on 555r about 18psi works ok the key is not to shock good tires too hard a drag radial will not recover like a slick will you will need to slip the clutch a little bit too

If I understand you correctly, if the DRs start to spin excessively then it will be harder to get traction than a slick? I have experienced that!

I ran 20 psi when I went to the track few weeks ago. Cut 1.7 60ft times. Slip the clutch dont just dump it. I was launching around 4k. Might have cut my 60ft down if i would have launched higher.

Drag radials are not designed to wrinkle the side walls like a slick. Lowering the tire pressure too low in this type of tire will be more detrimental hen helpful IMO. I would not go any lower then 20 PSIG.

I went to the track last night. I was only able to make 2 passes, both at 20 psi. It stuck much better. Last week I ran 8.89 in the 1/8th, last night I ran a 8.59. I know I could have ran better, but I was only able to get in 2 runs. To make matters more frustrating, the GUY gave me the wrong ticket, so I don't know how much my 60' time improved. Worst of all, I go out of town for work Monday and will be gone through November. I guess I will have to wait until next year.

I ran 22-23 lbs with my cammed and stalled auto WS6. Those tires love a nice smokey burnout and flashing rather than stalling.

I started at 20psi with mine today and worked down to 18psi. Was cutting 1.6's if I didn't spin ( playing with launch rpm) 1.8's w/ spin.

What is flashing vs. stalling? (I did mention new to drag racing right?)

Flash and stall refer to autos. You being a 6spd don't have those issues. Stall speed is what the converters are rated at ie 3600 stall, 3200 stall.. Flash refers to what rpm the car will rev to when going wot. Some people will brake stall at the line with a auto. Basically foot on brake and gas giving throttle to just before the car starts to move.

24 psi down to 12 psi? Is this the hot tire pressure that you are referring to or the cold tire pressure? I drive over an hour to get to the drag strip. When I get there, my hot tire pressure is around 38 psi. I always figure that 38 psi HOT is equivalent to 28 psi COLD. Therefore, I remove 8 psi to get me down to 30 psi HOT which I always figured was 20 psi COLD. Have I been wrong all this time so that I should get the NT05Rs down to 20 psi HOT in order to maximize traction?

I drive to the track (hour drive) and air them down to 20 psi. After a couple passes I check the pressure again and they climbed to 22 or 23, so I aired them back down to 20 psi. I noticed much better traction at 20 ACTUAL psi. I am chicken to go much lower, but I have dropped it to 18 w/ no adverse affects.

Way to bring a thread back from the dead BTW. I am very much the novice, take my advice w/ 2 grains of salt.
