Default MT ET Drag tire growth

Question to the Drag Racers: At what speed(mph) will a drag slick starts to grow in height? I'm thinking of running a set of MT ET Drag #3055S. Give me a little bit of knowledge guys

^^ Thank you. It will also compensate for the 4.56 gear that I'm running in the spooled S60.

Just an fyi, based on some calculations, it seems like my stiff side wall 29.5x10.5's on a 12" wheel w/bead locks stretch to around 30.25" in diameter around 150 mph.

it will grow an inch and a half in diameter over 130. I had mine clearanced 3/4 of an inch, front and back of tire. Took it to the dyno and it was not enough. After the first pull I had to take a hammer to the front lip to give it annother 1/4 inch.

^^There it is. Realistically the answer I was looking for. I will go ahead and try slicks over the drag radials I have now.

My first pull on the dyno ended up with smoke filling the shop, we were laughing our asses off. 1 inch seems to work out ok.

Thanks again. On another note, run tubes or no tubes?

I run tubes. I was totally against it at first because of the added complexity of mounting tires, extra weight, extra cost...etc.

Once I bit the bullet and decided to run tubes.......I will never go back to running without them. No leaks, not really any more difficult to mount the tires (use lots of baby powder) and seems to have stiffened the tires a little which helps with traction and high speed stability.

I don't run tubes. Low 1.30's with clutch dumps and now transbrake leaves. I used dawn dish soap on my tires before I mounted them. Mine hold air almost like a radial now. Only time I get sway is when I air them down below 15. But they seem to work best with 16.5 at the track and around 18 on the street.

I used to run the same 28x10.5s tire with 12.5 lbs all the time and never had any issues with sway.

People that have issues tend to start trying to drive the car when the back moves a bit and that's when it becomes a problem. Just let the rear walk a bit and keep the wheel steady and all will be well.

Dawn dish soap put 2 heavy coats on inside of tires my Hoosier 18192 29.5 slicks hold air for a year before I needed to add anything. Beadlock wheel too fwiw.

MTs are horrible for leaking, but as stated dish soap them and the problem should be gone! Hoosiers are pretty good for not leaking for whatever reason.

The swaying isn't really a big deal, let the car dance around, don't try and steer it or things can get hairy.

There is some goo you can get for tractor tires that acts like a lube when they pull the tire on and once the bead sets it sets up and basically glues the tire to the rim. Havent used it in a long time(years) but If I recall hot water broke it loose. We had to use it or when pulling a plow the rim would spin loose in the tire. We ran tubes full of liquid for traction probably not a good idea for drag racing.. LOL

For an auto car, on a 28, why would anyone bother with slicks? Bad tracks? M/T radial pros and be done.

a slick will always hook better than a radial, or they would be using them in Pro Stock and Top Fuel.
