Open ORY for the strip?
I'm going to an important drag race this weekend, and i'd like to get every advantage I can get (its against a bunch of Fords ). I'm trying to decide if I should just completley remove my Hooker catback. Granted it will save me 40lbs of weight, do you guys think the lack of back pressure would actually hurt my horsepower since I AM a bolt-on car? I know for the big cube cars it would help, but I don't know if it will benefit me. Opinions?

Alex, you will be fine dropping the muffler off. However, it won't be worth much power though. The biggest benefit will be the weight.
I only gained 3rwhp by dropping the Hooker catback on my car with bolt ons and 4rwhp when I installed the cam.
Go for it, it will only help.

Drop that **** and leave it off!! haha
I run an open y-pipe. When I was stock heads with a cam I went from running 114mph to 116mph by dropping the catback ( Borla ). Weather and 60' was a little better but not much. I gained 6rwhp on the dyno when I dropped the Hooker at the time.

Hell, if I can loose 40lbs and gain 3whp, that'll give me solid 1/2 tenth i'd imagine. I'm running against an '03 Cobra, so that just might make the difference between a win and a loss.

Well, my car is a "bolt-on" car (ok, lid and ported MAF and a 3500 Vig) and unbolting the exhaust at the y-pipe (still running through cats mind you) gives me a SOLID 2 tenths and nearly 2mph. I've done it numerous times.

You could always get a bullet mufler to throw on there, for such occasions (in case you get to a race that requires a mufler). That would be a nice experiment, with, & without the bullet. The bullet is only $37. Post the results here please. Thanks.
