steering rack setup

I dont have the money for a madman yet till then how do i make mine manual take the lines off and run it dry or put fluid in it and seal it?

will it die without fluid?

i just took the lines off of mine. didn't loop it or block it off. just lety it chill out all open. its been workin great for maybe two years (don't remember how long ago i took it off).
and i daily drive my car 90+ miles a day.
