Tire Decision - Radial vs Bias Ply for 6 speed car
Hello,
I would appreciate any help in deciding what would be the better tire for my car. It is a 6 speed car that I plan on running into the 9's. I am having work done to the car to run a 15''x12'' drag wheel in the rear. I am deciding between the following tires:
Bias Ply
1. Hoosier QTP 28''x14.5x15
2. M&H 28''x14.5x15
Radial
1. Hoosier DOT Drag Tire 325/50/15
2. MT ET Street 325/50/15
3. Goodyear Drag Tire 325/50/15
I know some of the advantages of the Bias Ply are that they weigh less and I heard they launch better than the radials. The disadvantages are that the grow (causing more fender modifications) and cause more resistance.
Also, I will run either a bias ply or radial up front to match the rear.
Can anyone help?

Mine would do that too. But I know when to lift. Well, I do now. I oilpan a year is my limit.
DO NOT RUN THE GOODYEAR RADIAL TIRE!!!!!!!! The absolute biggest pieces of **** out there. We actually tested a "newer design" set for them and gave them our feedback. This was after contacting and complaining about how bad the set I just bought was. The new ones were just as bad. Never heard back from them.
From what I have read the 6spd cars don't do as well on radials as autos. I would run a set of MT Race Slicks. But if your going to buy radials. MT all the way.

I would just go with a M/T ET Drag for the 6 speed. If you were an auto I would say M/T ET Street Radial.

I'm running the 325/50/15 MT's with my new setup... 402/T56/9". It went 11.23 at 124 its first pass with a smoking clutch. 60' was only a 1.61... it went a 1.58 later that night but my clutch and posi are both shot. I'm hoping to go low 1.5's or maybe a high 1.4 on this tire come spring... we'll see.

For a stick car, I say bias ply all day long.
I'm a stick car coming off the 6000RPM two-step on spray and I've never been able to hook a M/T drag radial to save my life.
On 26x10x15 ET DRAGs, I'm gone.

I run the MT drag radials on my M6 car, and they have treated me very well. I let loose on the clutch at 6500 and cut some high 1.6s.. Car is cam only, full-weight, 9" with 4.56s, and it hooks enough to make the car bog.

i like the hoosier 27x11.5x15 qtp's i just got. they seem to be softer then the m/t streets though. they seem to hook pretty well. i cut a 1.67 leaving at 4k (bogging) on motor, i'm pretty sure the clutch was slipping at the time also.

I have gone 1.63 as a best ever on bias ply 26x11.5x16 et streets and then switched to a 255x60x16 et street radial on the same track and same night to run consistent 1.59 's for the rest of the night.
I now run 275x50x15's but only cut 1.678 the last time out as the track was bad that night.
