Default Is this OK to Notch out for exhaust Clearance?

Hey guys I am trying to install my new Dynatech Mufflers right off the headers and I have to modify the crossmember on the Driverside to fit. I just wanted to know your thoughts on Cutting a full small section of the crossmember out? I have Pics with a white border around the area I want to cut out. They are the same piece just 2 different angles.

I don't think it will hurt the structure of the car as I have SFC in the car and a Chassis mounted thus making the car pretty stiff. And will have a Rollbar in by mid summer. Anyway here are the pics.

Let me know your thoughts please!!!

You might have to put some sort of additional support. Kind of like guys who put air ride on their truck and C-notch the frame.... Just cut out an arch shape on that crossmember to fit the muffler, and weld some metal in... Stronger than stock probably......This might not be a correct analogy..but I tried.

Notch it and then weld a piece of metal back up in it and you will be fine.

Make sure you remove the seat and carpet and any sound deadning on the floor there. If not bring some marsh mellows for a big bonfire.

Why would I have to remove all that? I an not going all the way through the floorpan? Also I have Lightweight carpet with no sound deadning.

because you will be welding right up to the floor pan. The metal can get hot enough to cause a fire on the oppisite side. I saw a car almost get burned to the ground because they welded a bracket on a firewall and did not pull back the sound deadning on the oppisite side.

I did mine like that, I cut the sides out of it and heated the bottom plate and bent it flat to the floor and tack welded it.

I think it's only function is to make the floor board stiffer there. It should be no problem to modify it. I personally would move the hard lines and just hammer it flat. That would keep it stronger than just taking a cut off wheel and removing the piece. Or you could cut it out while leaving a flap on each end to fold over the open hole on each side and then weld the flaps into place. That would also be quite strong.
