Default How to cut 1.9's on street tires (C5 A4)?

Guys, my goal is to break 12's all stock here in Texas before I start modding anything. I've got a 2001 Corvette C5 (targa) A4 with the 3.15 perf axle (and that year had the ls6 intake). I've run a PB of 13.11 @ 104.7 w/ a 2.02 60' on the stock Goodyear runflats, with 47* F ambient air temperature, w/ 1/4 tank of gas on the non-glass top. I set my tire pressures to 25psi rear, and I leave the fronts alone (33-35psi).

My previous PB was 13.24 @ 105 in 72*F temps. I noticed that a 25* drop in temperature, with the same 60', was good for a .1 ET gain. This Corvette is also lethally consistent in the 1/4 (gotta love those A4)'s.

I launch by revving up the rpm's to the stock limits and feathering it off the line to WOT (about 1400rpm launch). That usually nets 2.0 60's every time. Here's a video of me launching if anyone has any tips for me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIJDeXDDo78

To get 12's, I need to drop .115 from my ET. So either I need 20*F temps, I need to drop about 150 lb's from the car, or I need to be able to cut a 1.90 60'.

How hard is it to go sub 2.0 on street tires on a C5? What is the technique for launching? And what street tires (short of drag radials) would be the best for doing that?

Searching for 12's!
Tim

if your running runflats its going to be hard because the side wall doesnt flex
my o1 z28 cut 1.9 60 foots on eagle ga tires with 30 psi of pressure leaving off idle

What tire would you recommend?

Not to sound like a dick but.....

#1 wake up, just kidding work on your r/t a little though, that vid made you look like you were taking a nap.

#2 make sure that t/c is off

#3 go only slightly over 2k for launch

#4 adjust rpm's per each launch's spin.... Most say that you dont need a burnout on stock tires... but I got a 1.65 60ft time on a set of stock runflats.... I let them out to about 20 psi and made sure that I heated them well... till there was decent white smoke.

#5 get yourself some bfg drag radials.... I have really liked them and just took off my 6th set

Stock C5 A4 Z51 with OEM run flats, 1.8's every run. 30+ psi. A well prepped track with plenty of VHT is the secret.

Yea, I was sleeping I've done over 100 track passes b/w my vette and my GTP, and I can generally cut close to .500 r/t's or .005 r/t's everytime, depending upon what I'm going for (autos rule the lights), but some runs (especially when they run pro-tree) I prefer to wait until I've got the car stalled up before taking off. If I'm going for ET, I'm racing myself not the guy next to me.

Also I can't really get the car to 2k on the stock stall (?). I typically launch about 1400-1500 rpm, whatever the car will let me rev up to in drive with the brake on.

As for T/C, I put it in competitive driving mode instead of T/C off. From what I've read, that's just as good as T/C off, except it will save you if the rearend gets too far out of whack.

I agree my tires suck, I will be going with Michilen Pilot PS2's as my next set. Not sure if I want to risk 20psi on these 18's though.. 22psi is as low as I'll dare to go.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll be going for some 1.9's this summer. Will post up if I do.

on a stock stall not gonna happen 1750 is it and thats on e/t streets.
you might try removing wheight.if im thinking right the vettes have a heavy spare tire .remove it and anything else easyto remove.im in the same boat tryin to kock a tenth off my 60ft on stock converter.
i talked to a few guys on here that say flashing it from 1k works best.

I think you should buy a set of drag radials to get into 12's
Bfg dr's was my first mod and got me into 1.9 60's. I was running Michelin
Pilots before and they did nothing but spin.
