camarocain, did he sell it because he got an 02 Z06 red vette?
How fast do want to try to go on $1500? I would say a good set of Drad Radials would be the first thing...no point in buying anything else if you can't even get if off the line without spinning. Maybe some 3.73 or 4.?? gears. Hard to really list a lot, $1500 goes pretty fast, but maybe some other M6 cars can help you out with this.

I say go for a complete exhaust setup. About 300 bucks for a Hooker Cat-back. Which sounds awesome and is pretty easy to install. The LT headers, you can buy FLP's with removable cats and offroad pipes for $1300. Or you could do some bolt ons like a ported throttle body from Bauer or the like, Mass Airflow Sensor, and some suspension items. Strut Tower Brace, Sub Frame connectors, and you could still probably throw a catback in there for $1500. But it does go quick, all well worth the $$$ IMO

No nitrous.....hmmmmmm.
One thing to keep in mind is that any LS1 that is bonestock can easily overpower the tires. So a good jumping off point would be Nitto's or BFG Drag Radials.
Another thing that alot of people overlook is a good suspension condusive to racing...weight transfer is key. So you could invest in some QA1 shocks and springs. And a good set of LCA's.
And finally, a good stall converter added to this mix would mean serious street dominance.
If your serious about drag racing, stay away from lowering springs!!! Terrible for racing.

cutout, Rev Lok 2 clutch with sintered disc, springs, pushrods and a TNT F2 wet kit
Might be a little over 1500 but not by too much.

Like said above, Headers (hooker LTs) or Macs on a budget, a cam, and a cutout. This should get you about 116 MPH full weight give or take depending on the size of the cam. Drag radials would be ok, but stay away from the real sticky stuff until you can afford a rear.

Nothing will give you more seat of the pants power (NA) on your budget than headers and maybe a cam. You can throw in a nice small cam (the TR220/114 or something) and a good set of longtubes. The SS catback is fine, especially with no cats. Just pop a $50 cutout on there and open it when you want to scare the neighbors.
hell for 1500, i'd do FLP's (plus install and extras like gaskets, bolts, and sims) and put a 3" cutout under the car after the Y pipe. That would eat all the cash up and you'd feel it a lot more than a STB, MAF, etc, etc.
