Default belt melting and shredding

im having belt problems. my ac and ps are gone. so the belt goes around the crank and the alternator is where the old tensioner goes. it has an adjustable mount. the question is i keep melting and shredding belts. is the tension too much? i loosened it and it still did it. 5 mile drive and the belt is on when i get back just shredded adn about 2 ribs left. please help

Have you made sure your pullies are all aligned and square?

make sure its not rubbing on any bolt heads. Ive had that happen before.

yeah they are all square. i was thinking that maybe there is not enough pressure on the water pump. like not enough belt and when the motor revs it slips creating heat that melts the belts. when the melt they are not working off the pulley, just on and shredded up.
but what do you all do when you have jsut a water pump and alternator to spin? i guess i could run more pulleys.
