Question for the 500+ rwhp Big Dogs
I'm putting down 457/421 to the wheels with my current set up - I'm 99% sold on a 402 LS2 done by A&A Corvettes in Oxnard. I know and trust their work so I believe Andy when he says the 402 will make around 490 rwhp 480 rwtq.
Question is - am I going to have a HUGE issue with traction? I know I wont be able to go WOT on the street in first gear (I can barely do that now) but what about the shift to second, etc.
I have friends that are strongly suggesting I dont do it, that the car will not be as overall fun to drive because it will be too strong and wont hook up, etc.
I plan to road race the car quite a bit at Willow and Buttonwillow, think it will be out of balance?
I run 18" wheels all around on Toyo RA1's - they hook well on the street and the track.

It's true. With my 6spd and 4.10's I can't shift fast enough to keep up with the rpm's. Even with a blower cam being slightly lazy on the bottom, it'll burn the tires half way through third gear. I'm going to be putting on some LCA relocation brackets soon, so maybe that will help.
I can just imagine a N/A car making close HP & torque will have more low end grunt and could have traction issues.
Is this an M6 or A4?
Have you done anything else with the suspension to help get traction?

i can punch it in 2nd and lose traction....maybe 3rd depending on road....my tires are a little worn though (fuzion 275/40/17's)....youll definately need some traction cause i can break loose in 1st-4th on the highway i can shift to 4th and break loose....im also getting relocation brackets soon so hopefully that will help the wheel hop...

You are just going to invest in good tires. The Nitto DR II will work well. If you go with all seasons you will break loose if you crush it on a regular basis. If you are real worried about tires then are you sure you need to be putting a 402 in?

My suggestion would be this. Those the damn 18's. You are going to have some traction issues with your car on the street if you are getting into your pedal to much. You you drive normally you won't have a problem.
I personaly was getting tired of running straight slicks on the street because of traction issues. But the it would suck when all of a sudden it started to ran. I just picked up some mickey thompson sportsmans. They work great. They are respectable when the grounds wet, and they hook pretty good (they are very gummy tires) on the dry payment.

I have been thinking about the situation your in right now for a while. My car is near stock and with dr's I have no traction problems on concrete. I will be doing a H&C&I package soon and am looking for 450-475rwhp. At what point is it a hinderance to have too much power in a vette on the street? There's no sense in getting beat by slower cars because you can't hook. I will not run a soft sidewall on a vette (et street), it doesn't look good imho and it damn sure won't handle. You may as well buy a Mustang if your going to run slicks full time. 750rwhp would be cool from a 100mph punch though.

You could always get a spare set of wheels for the strip. Fats/Skins arent too expensive these days. My power is in my sig and run 4.30 gears. At the track I have my draglites and 27/11.5/15 Hoosier QTP's and they hook like crazy... usually 1.5's or less for my 60ft's.

Pio,
Check on my new post near by. I am very impressed with the SLP 402. 500hp should be very easily done. I came in at 481rwhp/489 torque. A Fast intake, cutouts, 90mmTB, cold air box, etc would easily bring me way over. I wanted to kept it simple. I don't believe there is anything about a C5 ZO6 that would be less able to handle the power compared to a C6 ZO6. Our C5Z's are very solid, the suspension design is very, very similar, just a few tweakings make it different. I am sure that there are some road courses that would favor our ZO6 suspension compared to the new Z's, and visa versa.
1st gear is for stop and go traffic, parking, etc. 2nd gear is now easier to break the tires loose than 1st used to be with the factory engine. 3rd gears pulls as hard as 2nd did. th gear, you can do almost anything, even start out from a stop if you must because your holding your coffee and the cup holder is not worth bothering with.
Wider tires will not help, but finding the stickiest compound will.
