Ever since I was cleaning my maf and found bug pieces and foam from the seal around the box I figure leaving it in saves me $$$$$$$$$$, nevermind the gains!

Well based on the tune, I seriously doubt it would be a measurable amount. Now if your tune is way off one way or the other, it may make a slightly noticeable difference one way or the other. Recommendation: keep your screen on.

I've heard its only 2 hp gain. Not worth it considering all of the crap it keeps out of your engine.

If you look at the screen closely you will notice it is honeycombed. Its other purpose, other than the bugcatcher theory,is to make the airflow laminate as it crosses the sensor.I figured out the value of the screen when I removed mine after installing the supercharger. The result was a small power surge in the engine at low rpm.I reinstalled the screen and it disappeared. There was nill difference in power with or without the screen.

Checkout installuniversity.com, I believe they did a test on it and said that the small gains come from the ignition advance as a result of the disturbed air, not from increased airflow.

My two cents.

There is something to be gained from it...flow bench testing can prove that. It is most definitely not designed to be a bug/leaf catcher though...if you are having those items appear on the screen, you need to seal your airbox.

unless you're getting a tune, don't mess with the MAF, you can throw things way off

the 2 hp gain you might see is not worth the risk of running lean, IMO

Agreed. A lot of cammed guys remove them and go speed density for better throttle repsonse and less tuning headaches.

But, it is not a bug catcher! If you have crap on the MAF you have problems.

I removed mine before my tune cause I am spraying with a dry kit. The car ran fine the 100 miles or so that I drove it before the tune, and fine afterwards.

Been running mine for about 4 years now without the screen and no problems here on the old stock motor or the new built one.

could removing the maf screen create a lean condition? after the tuning was done with the screen on?
