extremely low dynojet #'s...
my car's a 98 LS1 trans am, a4. it has a flowtech cutout and an slp lid, and i ran it 3 times today and got 283.45, 284.06, and 285.73rwhp. this seems EXTREMELY low since there are 100% bone stock ls1's running well over 300. granted it's an auto, but still this doesnt seem possible. the shop just got the dynojet dyno a few days ago and said they still were working on having it "dialed in." could this potentially be why my #'s are freakishly low? i mean i can't complain at all about how the car runs. i beat srt-4's and 01 cobras with no problem at all. thanks for your help

Did they electronically put your car in 3rd and lock the torque converter? What software are they running besides WinPep? EFI Live, HpTuners, etc? If they did not lock the tq verter then those numbers would make sense.

they put mine in 3rd, look at my sig and mods for my dyno #'s, I asked them to put it in overdrive just for kicks, but they said I would lose horsepower doing that,,,,,,is this true?

You are not "Losing" power inasmuch the gearing ratio in overdrive (4th) is not ideal for power transfer.
One can put the vehicle in D or "3" depending on which fbody flavor you have to keep the car from going to OD (4th).
You need tuning software, EFI Live, HPTuners, etc to lock the converter tho, WinPep cannot do this.

That makes total sense to me. Have a buddy with a 99 Z28. He dyno'd just over 290 with more mods than what you have. He didn't break 300 till after the Hooker LTs, It was like 316 or 318. When you start doing more mods, do the LS6 intake first. That is his next mod before we go to Doug Rippie for a Dyno Tune.

I wouldn't worry about the dyno numbers. My last car (02 Z28 M6) only dynoed 294/316 with a lid and cutout. That's a major pig for a 2002 M6 car. Needless to say I was pretty pissed.....until it ran 13.1@109 at the track. My current car with the same mods, plus a tune dynoed 324/343 on the same dyno...and it's an automatic. Go figure. Where did you get it dynoed at?

most bone stock ls1's i've seen make around 290rwhp plus or minus 5. thats on a 6 speed. you seem right on target. those making well over 300 either have factory freaks, or they are not stock. There seem to be a lot of ls1 factory freaks. I struggled to beat one auto ls1 that bone stock down to the air filter. that damn thing had to run low 13's stock. not sure what those canadians put in those things, but there seem to be a lot of factory freaks.
