NHRA Unleashed @ Gainesville Raceway November 5-6th 2010
Anyone hitting this up?
Should be a bad *** event, with 5 heads-up performance classes, including Pro Mod, 10.5" Outlaw, EZ Street (a drag radial type class), as well as index-based 1/4-mile classes including 8.50, 9.00, 9.50, 10.00, 11.00, 12.00 and 13.00. Each index class pays at least a grand to the winner, plus the valuable NHRA Wally trophy!
There is also a car show with over 60 trophies up for grabs at this event.
For more information, check out: http://nhraunleashed.com/ or www.gainesvilleraceway.com/
Tickets go on sale this Saturday August 28th online at www.nhra.com and there is a limited # of race entries for each class (once they are sold out, that's it, and it is pre-registration for all racing stuff).
I'll be there with a big group of Gainesville regulars racing my Nova in the 11.00 class, hope to see you there!

I'll be there in the 11.0 class. I wanted to hit the 10.0 class, but I haven't put the juice to it on the track yet and I'm not sure where it'll be. I can always just spray less (or none) and compete in the 11.0 class. I don't want to buy a ticket for the 10.0 class and find myself running 10.20 or 10.30s

I figured there will be a good chunk of cars in the 10, 11 and 12 second classes. I am in the same boat; thought about 10.00 with the spray but didn't want to risk not being able to cover the index.

I will be running the 12.0 index. Going to need to shave a few tenths off. My best time is in July heat. I think weather will help some also going to strip a bunch of weight and see where I can get it down to. Got time to test it out.

After a computer trouble delay (tickets went on sale around 10:45 instead of 10 a.m.), you can buy your tickets here: www.gainesvilleraceway.com/apcm/templates/news.asp?articleid=42728&zoneid=65

Just an FYI on updated rules and notes:
www.gainesvilleraceway.com/apcm/templates/news.asp?articleid=42695&zoneid=65
Gainesville Raceway Executive General Mgr Don Robertson and I have spoken about a few things that might fall into the "gray area" on Unleashed rules:
#1 Delay boxes: Even though the Unleashed rules state "no delay boxes" Gainesville allows them to remain in our No-Box series, and if you have a delay box in your car it must be zero'd out and is subject to check AT ANY TIME (INCLUDING BETWEEN THE BURNOUT BOX AND THE STARTING LINE). With that said, Don told me the same rule will be used for the Unleashed event, but be advised if you leave your box in the car you will be subject to search, again at any time.
#2 Nitrous: Nitrous is allowed on a full throttle switch (off/on only with no timers or progressive controller) or a button on the shifter, steering wheel, etc. Again, NO TIMERS ARE ALLOWED, PERIOD!
#3 Thottle stops: Throttle stops are not allowed in regards to a device that can be altered in any way during a run (electric, hydraulic or pneumatic devices are not allowed). BUT, if you remove all said wiring, lines, plungers, etc and the stop is now a fixed stop that can't change during a run, it will be allowed (as it would be similar to a permanent stop (example: bolt stop that can be adjusted between runs but once the hood is closed can't be adjusted by the driver from the interior in any way).
If you have questions and/or concerns, call the track at 352-377-0046. Don said they are more than willing to help, and it's always better to get a clear answer to a confusing question rather than waiting until race day to ask....
You can also ask me here or via PM and I'll get an answer for you....

You'd likely have to remove it since it still has timer functions. I have an Edelbrock Progressive controller, and I asked if it could be zero'd out versus removing it entirely, and the answer was no.

The rules are no timers to keep all the throttle stops/ nitrous and boost timers out of it to make it more of a driver's race versus a "controlled" race. I know I have to yank my timer too and I have yet to figure out how but will get it done.....

I've been searching through both sites and can't find the official start time on Friday. When is driver's meeting/racing start? When do you have to be present to be eligible? I see they have an optional test and tune Friday from 10-3.
Edit: Nevermind, found it here http://www.nhra.com/UserFiles/file/U...20Prices-3.pdf

Keep in mind the Friday TNT is optional, but you need to hit at least one of the 3 qualifying sessions to be on the sheet for Saturday night's eliminations.

Okay, since this about two weeks out I wanted to post an update from the Unleashed site on car counts for the heads-up index classes thus far (each class can have a max of 64 entries, making it a 6 round to-win deal):
13.00-29
12.00-41
11.00-54
10.00-55
9.50-10
9.00-6
8.50-9
Also, they will be parking you in order as you come in, so due to the big # of racers they will not be allowing you to save parking spots. This is similar to what Pinks All-Out did a few years back, and also what is the common practice at bigger events since every inch of space is needed.
Bottom line: if you want to park next to someone, come in together! When PINKS All-Out came to Gainesville me and a bunch of friends that were racing came up with a time to enter together and it worked out great (set up a camp between 2 enclosed trailers for cooking, hanging out, etc).
Hope to see you there!
