O ringing a head.... at what point is it necessary?
Im planning on building a motor for my SS in the near future.... Ive been doing a lot of research lately.
One of the questions I have is at what point should o ringing be considered? My goals are 800+ whp..... procharged, and possibly going bigger in the future. Is o ringing at that level way too overkill? What kind of costs are associated with o ringing when building a motor?
Thanks...

An o-ring is never an over kill way to seal a combustion chamber. they will support much more cylinder pressure with out failing. It normally runs about $250 to o-ring the head gaskets also cost less than a cometic gasket and can be reused if necessary. I recommend this when using more than 20 psi of boost or more than 500 hp of nitrous.

im @ 15psi with pump gas/meth. seems ok. of course i want to turn it up with race gas to 18-20 psi. would you chance it with a setup like mine without oringing the heads? im running ported 243`s with arp studs all over.

i would do it on any ls trying to make power. the oring is tried and true, very inexpensive and at 800hp you would never have to worry about a blown head gasket.
Coming up this spring, im going to push the stock l92 heads with a basic o ring setup to see when they push water. setup is a 400+ cubes with a 98mm.

I wouldn't go thru the trouble of oringing a stock head with a stock deck. The oring will not keep the head from flexing/lifting. Save the money on the oringing and buy a thick deck head. Then if you discover that you are having problems popping headgaskets, that's when you need the orings.
