Loud banging noise...
So I had an issue with my turbo, or what appeared to be. I was driving around yesterday and noticed I couldnt go into boost all of a sudden. I went to stop light, then accelerated to about 2500-3k rpms to shift into 2nd. I heard a loud bang, and then it did the same when I went to 3rd. I pulled over didnt see anything obviously wrong. I ended up limping it home by shifting at about 1500 RPMs. I take off the turbo and theres some obvious issue with it so I figured that was it. I started the car up today to make sure it was ok, its still doing it when I bring it up to 3k rpms(in neutral) and let off the gas. WTF could have happened...

Not that I can tell, I dont see any chunks of metal or shavings anywhere. I honestly cant provide a good detail of the sound, it just sounds like a gun going off under the hood. I guess it could be a backfire but I dont see what would be causing it. It runs fine under 3k rpms.

Listening to videos of melted pistons and rings but mine doesnt sound anything like em. It idles fine and sounds ok up to 3k rpm then it starts getting shitty, especially on decel.
I dont even want to look at this thing right now

Start with a plug check, that usually helps narrow it down. You could also watch the motor as someone else revved it up for the boom, but I wouldn't try to make that sound very often!

I just started it and revved it up. When I get the RPMs up to 3k and drop it, it shoots a fireball out the exhaust. The air hits my radiator so hard it actually pushes it back. I dont see any metal shavings coming out.

First things to check in turbo car are ignition. I have had burned plugs several times included burning up top of line granatelli wires supposedly good for big temperatures. Car made a machine gun noise when went wot. Part throttle was ok but wot it and machine gun. Fixed wires ,fixed problems. Now run gmpp wires with stock heat shields.
As said would pull plugs look at them and see if they look ok. Not that easy to pull a few depending on your setup but necessary evil. Gap to around .030 usually and assume you are running colder plug like a tr6 type of thing.
If plugs are good and wires are good likely would next look at fuel. Change out fuel filter, check fuel pressure at idle and under load. Get injectors maybe pro cleaned.
Of course you can also check compression, leakdown testing if you find anything weird.
Big vacuum leak might do some weird stuff. Boost leak not as much but still would check for those.
Fried turbo usually makes grinding noises, and you usually get less boost than normal I guess maybe none if its really bad. If no big smoke out back of car then thats a good sign.
Not sure if you do your own tuning ,if you do look that over especially if you have changed things maybe accidentally.

If there is a ringland broken in the CC, most likely it will have caused some damage to the top of plug. Pull the plugs asap and see if you see anything there. As said, check the wires and see if they are burnt through. I'm sure it would throw a misfire code though if that were the case.

Im kinda disgusted with the car right now, so I think Im going to take a break for a few days. Im starting to considering fixing it then turning it back to stock and selling it along with my bike and truck, then just getting something new with a warranty.
