Default Procharger Hat Problem Fixed

Beware before you scroll down any further, there have been problems with this setup, mainly the quality of the elbow used. I am not sure what blower or setup he is running but here are pics of his carnage.

Hey guys! Figured out a way to easily fix the 1.5psi boost drop associated with using the factory Procharger hat on our cars. There is a little modification required but nothing too hard. I'm not sure how this will work for everyone as I am running the Griffin stand up radiator and a FMIC.

Heres the first shot of what I have

This is the K&N Air Filter I bought from Bob @ EPP a while back. This was supposed to be the better bigger air filter. The filter inlet is 3.50" and the elbow is 4". I would recommend getting the same filter but with a 4" inlet to make it a hell of alot easier.
Cost about $50.00

Next is the 6" Tube I bought from Pep Boys that will connect from your elbow to the filter. Trim as necessary. I bought the 6" one but its too long, I think the 4" one would be perfect.
Cost $12.99

Here is the 90 Degree Elbow from Pep Boys as well. This is not regular flimsy silicone, this stuff feels really firm and I highly doubt it will collapse. One side is alot shorter than the other. The short side will connect to the Procharger. There is also a converter ring on the inside of it for the compressor side because our compressor inlet is 3.75 inches. I got the converter ring from a 4" silicone connector sold at Pep Boys also. They advertise it as a 4" to 4" or 3.75" they just give you the ring with it if you need to downsize to 3.75"
Cost $19.99

Now its time to fit everything up. First we put the elbow on and position it so that it will go under your charge pipe.

Then we put the 4" aluminum tube in and attach it to the elbow. On my setup I had too much of an angle on the filter so I had to move the Cruise control module and mount it on the side of the frame. Mark your holes, drill them and tap them to the size of your original bolts. The frame rail is plenty thick enough to just tap through to hold the module in place.

Now put the filter on and enjoy an extra 1.5psi not having to buy POS restrictive inlets from Procharger once a year.

Stephen

Did some research on the 4" version of the K&N air filter and it is P/N RE-0870

Has anyone tried a short cone or mushroom style filter similar to the one shown on the K&N box posted above on the lower right corner of the box? attach it directly to the blower inlet.

The filter will sit just about where it did before, it may angle down a bit more but if it bothered you that bad you could get a 45 degree 4" coupller to bring it back up, but I think it will be fine. I will get another pic of it in a couple hours with the mock up of how the filter should sit. I am going to go buy the 4" version of that K&N air filter.

I'm pretty sure that wouldnt work too well as you couldnt get as much airflow through it. Also that would have to be a very very small filter as you still have to have room to tighten it down onto the compressor. Maybe a 2" element?

This is still the best inlet hat set up I've ever seen. I plan to copy it exactly.

I'm plannin on making my own hat set-up as well. Since I'll be driving in rain potientially, I'm gonna run mine over toward the passanger side & up. So the filter element will be up away from potiential water puddles. Sometimes out by my house the water gets deep enough in spots I just wouldnt be comfy keeping my filter down low.

Nice job though

Defiantly keep the filter up and put the panel cover back on if you can.

I was cleaning my filter weekly until I finally gave up and moved the inlet to up over the panel and sealed it in. I drive mine daily though.

curious what the dim. of the hat is if you layed the short side on something flat, an meas the total height
i have a Vette Procharger setup on my Chevelle, and use an F body 90 deg inlet on it, and with the filter kills around 50 HP
i have about 4.5" to the radiator

I think it will fit with stock radiator but will still need some modding done to make it fit and I would rather just get the procharger truck inlet

That one cuts in deep to the lower radiator support. Sure you can move the radiator back, but what about the AC/Condensor? I dont think that would work for those wanting to keep their A/C.
