Default Is an intercooler really necessary....?

im already tired of my current combo.....so ive decided instead of doing a cam swap im going to build a turbo set up........im pretty sure i have decided on a mp 70 with a .96 ar.......the lq4 it will be running on is all stock with except for an ls1 intake......if im only going to be runnin 6-7 psi is an intercooler necessary......i planned on not using one just seeing what you guys have to say.....? i will be using stock truck manifolds flipped......

also.....i have -6an fuel lines with a tanks inc....255 walbro setup....will that be enough fuel....maybe a boost a pump...?.....what size injectors 60 lbs?

thanks

You really should. Get the cheap flebay one for like $130 and get enough al pipe.

Or you could run meth

I would say on stock compression yes unless you want to run meth/alky. Also check out cxracing a few guys on here are running them including me and are very happy. About 170-220 bucks.

hmmm.....i guess i just didnt think water/meth injection is needed on a low boost application....i know if helps but didnt think it was bad to not have it....same with the intercooler.....this is in a 1970 elcamino....with alot of room and i just dont think it will get that hot......

it doesnt matter how much room you have, you compress air, you get heat.

Even 3-4 psi will produce a good bit of heat. The fact is with out some type of cooler your not going to get the full potential out of your set up. It also gives you a lot more safety and helps control IAT's and EGT's.

for a street car it is a good idea, you can probably get away with lots of meth and low boost, but i personally would not do that on a street car

An IC is the cake, meth is the frosting. Do the cake first. Then the meth for insurance. You will have a fundamentally stronger, more reliable setup.
