Default Leaking Procharger....

If it aint one damn thing its another with this car lol. I took the headunit off to see if it was leaking oil and sure enough it is. I had it sitting on the tool box and it was steadily dripping out from behind the blower pulley seal. Has anyone else ran into this problem? I think this is my belt slip culprit. Does the head unit have to be sent back or what?

Yeah it can be I believe. I did a quick search a while ago looking for possible answers to my problem and found somebody that ran a rubber hose to the head unit and filled it up that way I believe.

Dont know about procharger but A friend of mine has a 93 lightning with a vortech blower that needed to be overhauled. Instead of sending it to vortech, he went to a local bearing and seal specialist store and somehow got the bearings and seals to do a rebuild. Its been 3years and about 7k so far and its running good as new. You might think about this avenue first. My thoughts are If vortech can do it so can I with the same materials in hand. Finding the proper bearings and seals would be my only problem. I would dissassemble it and get the #'s off seals n bearings and start looking. If ya cant find them then its gonna have to go to the factory anyways, so whats the harm in trying? Good luck.

i think it is pretty common that the prochargers leak a drop or two over time. i know mine does and i have read that others do as well. you can fill these up when they are on the car. the problem i have with this is that the procharger is not sitting 100% vertical while mounted on the car so i don't know that the dip stick will read exactly where it should.

This isnt a drop or two. It was steadily dripping out when I had it sitting there.

That seal goes. Mine went and took the supercharger out (I didn't notice it gone until it was too late.

A buddy of mine (D1SC also) had the same issue. I bought a new one, he sent his back for a rebuild.

I was thinking that the standard rebuild was around $400 plus parts. That is a guess so don't quote on that...

There's nothing special about that seal. It gets destroyed when you throw a belt. Go to Napa and get Chicago Rawhide part# 11625 and replace it.

Well to get my headunit fixed and sent back is $430. The seals needed to be replaced. Guess you gotta pay to play.

A new bottle of oil for the fkn I took to replace those seals lol. Oh well it needed to be checked out anyways. The blower was built back in 02' and he said its in really good shape for being that old.
