Default ls1 or lq9

Alright so heres my situation

I have a ls1 in my car now. its the new style (the one with the ls6 block)
I wanna go D1SC.

Now basically i am asking which is better? a bulletproof ls1 or lq9?
Whats the limits of a forged and built LS1? its so much lighter and would get better gas mileage.

My goals are 10s with full interior street legal car.

If i could sell my ls1, i would buy a brand new lq9 and throw a d1sc with 8lbs of boost after that stock lq9 is broken in... then i would build that one and go from there...

if i go ls1, id probably have to hold off on the d1sc in order to build it to even hold the power

I'd go LQ9. It opens up using LS3 style square ports heads. They flow a ton better than LS1 heads and are cheap. That, and being iron it's a stronger block if you really want to make a lot of power. Weight is not that big of a difference.

I would stick with a forged 346 unless you could afford doing a forged lq9. You can run 850 rwhp no problem in a forged 346

Op ya know where I stand, forge what ya have, and the LQ9 is about ~75lbs diff if that matters for ya. Can't really go wrong either way but I would be interested to know what all is involved in switching to the LQ9, those iron blocks are strong.

My LS6 intake literally bolted onto my LQ4, so I'm curious what mods you say are needed...the only mod I have heard of is for the 4 port coolant pipe that came on LS1s, but the LQs are blocked off at the rear, so they don't require this.

You are correct, it is an easy swap.

Friend did a swap on an LQ9 but a different application and it required some mods, it's apples and oranges, OP sorry for the confusion.

I know you want tobuy a brand new motor but IMO id say buy a cheap 6.0 and swap everything over and get it running right so you know your not selling off anything you need and build up a proper motor, whether it be a ls1 or lq9, on the side.

this is a good point. but correct me if im wrong, all accessories are swapped over and the intake and oil pan too.

i have an extra oil pan so really all i need to sell is that complete ls1 in my car now minus accessories and intake. ill have to get the spark plugs and plug wwires off there too since their still got some life left.

as for the water pump, im pretty sure that they work in our cars. if not, then looks like i'd have to pull the trigger on a high performance water pump and throw a 160 tstat in there
