New project-twin turbos
I have never turbo'd anything so new to me. What I am building over the next year will be slightly different than most builds because the vehicle I am using. I am building a '72 GMC 1/2 ton 4x2 longbed. It will be backhalved with giant tires and 9" Ford and will be caged. This will be street machine but want possibilities of cranking way up and running race gas to achieve huge hp. I will be using a well built Texas Speed engine setup for boost. Will have LSx block with PRC 237 cc heads, 6 bolt heads and 408 cid. Will be using 1 7/8" headers and 4150 style efi intake but will be using factory style computer setup tuned. I am using twins but what twins would work best? The truck will not have cooling problems because huge truck radiator. The air to air intercooler will be huge also to cool most as possible, meth injection if needed. I was thinking radical with twin 76's but I am a newby and you guys know this stuff so that's why asking here. My goal is to run 9's (even if way high 9's) on pump gas and then be able to crank up boost and dump race fuel in it and run in the 8's. Is this possible? Will be I am guestimating 4100-4300 lbs with me in it. Will have built 4L80E behind it. Want a drag week vehicle that can haul all my sh*t in the bed lol. I just have started this project and more in blueprinting mode now. Want to go at this right. Just want something that's fast street car and like LSx combos. I have 7 second dragster and 7 second '56 Chevy but those are all drag cars, not street at all.
What size turbo's you guys think? What brand, etc?

Dan it did do me well no doubt! N2Obaby I will definitely shop around on engine before purchase. The chassis and rest of build will be first to make sure I have something to handle that much power! Lol.

With that much weight you need some power to hit 8's. I've pushed 4080lbs to high eights +160mph. Plus you have an aero hit. Twin hp7668's from Turbonetics will do it. If you want more, pte7675's are your friend. Sounds like you are building a killer truck. If it were mine, I'd have Kurt Urban build the engine and get the turbos, gates, boost control etc from Jim at Speed Inc.

oh great, another person building a turbo ls farm truck...
by the time I drive mine I will be the one being called a copy cat
anyways, I have seen alot of guys having great success using 2 of the On3 67's. they come in a variety of A/r ratios on the exhaust side so you can find what ratios will work with your setup based on when you want them to spool etc
just wondering also, why is yours so heavy? my 72 longbed with an iron headed big block oldsmobile, full tool box, etc weighed 4200. my current 68 with the 5.3 and everything is sitting at ~2650

Well after much thought I may have decided to go other ways with this project. My engine combo is staying same for most part but think I am going to keep eye open for good roller that already has built chassis. Will save me fair amount of money. Have eyes on '78 Malibu now with 33"x18.5" rears with 4 link and 9" with 502 bbc and has full cage with funny car cage upgrade. Would be easier to push it faster than tank of a truck. Not completely abandoning truck though, if no good deals come up I'll still do. By the time i get the cash I don't know if Malibu will be still available. BTW the 502 would be for sale after all parts bought for turbo project.
