HELP!!! Trying to decide on a turbo or turbos... 5.3 build.
Hey guys, I'm new to the turbo world and can't decide on what to do. My main question is would a 47/88 t6 or twin 6262's be too much on a freshened up 5.3 with pretty much a cam and good hardware? I plan to go to a forged 370 or something close to it after I learn some in the tuning area on these things. I'm just not sure on the AR size I need. Going to try to creep up to 20+ pounds on the 5.3 and see what breaks . I will gladly listen to any knowledge on turbo size and AR size. Guess I'm lookin for a setup that is pushing Bering too big for the 5.3 so I will have a little room to grow. As far as the rest goes it will be a stock ECM with up tuners and the supporting mods such as 80# inj. Ect.. Trams is a built 4L80 with the correct conv. In a 3200# truck... And this will be intercooler water to air also on race fuel. Looking to get in the 7-800 up range with the 5.3.... Give me some ideas guys.

tell you what I know its a apples to oranges comparison but I have a new cea dbb 6262 on my turbo buick motor and that thing spools so fast that the motor almost feels naturally aspirated my stall is a 2800rpm at 0 pounds of boost. Im pretty sure to 62s will do good on that motor

The biggest decision is twins or single. Got a buddy doing twin On3 68mm on his 5.3 S10 while I am doing a single Borg s480 T6 on my 5.3 Mustang notch. The stall between a 5.3 and a 6.0 is going to be a little different. But for a almost too large single, the T6 s480 with a 96mm turbine would be a good start and can be upgraded later to a 88 or 91mm compressor.

Kinda leaning on a large single to keep the cost own and help on packing/ tuning as this is going to be my first turbo venture. I started looking at precision units but I like what I've been reading on the Borg Warner stuff from a performance and a price standpoint. What would be the ultimate unit on the 5.3 with a little room to grow. I assume it will be a t6 but what is the size and ar needed. This is more of a track only setup but will see some street time on occasion...

I have a set of bw s366's on my 5.3 s-10 and they are pretty good. I also have a buddy with a set of 6265's on a 370 and its pretty rockin too. He uses the. 82 v band hotside.
I also had an s480 but couldnt fit a huge 5" downpipe. The twins are the way to go.

Thanks for the pic silver 82... We were dooin a little looking on mine this afternoon and my cage is close to yours and that's pretty close to what we came up with on a location for twins and the single may require some cage tweaking on mine so it may be back to twins as that is what I really want to do anyway. Are u runnin a snow kit on yours as I see no IC.???

No intercooler. Doesnt need one really with e85.
Best with no IC went 8.97 and 153mph
Best with an A/W setup (not shown) was 8.89 @157, there should be more left in it, just need to keep messing with it.

Ok guys I sat the mockblock in the truck and have been dooming some measuring and looking and it looks as if I have room to run the Holley high ram under the hood as I have about 13 3/4 inches at the front between the hood and valley plate and the intake is 12 1/2 inches tall plus its just looks cool. Looking like its going to be a 5.3 that I have access to to pushit past its limits I only plan on a cam springs and good rod bolts and head studs as far as the longblock goes. Going to use the high ram and I kinda have a turbonetics 76 with a .96 ar picked out for this combo. What do you guys think... reckon it will work???

I think the high ram will be a bit of a waste with that combo. Without a cam and turbo that can hold power til 7000+ rpm the hi ram, while looking really cool, will be a waste and make less hp than a z06 intake. I am planning on running one, but I also have a cam and turbo that can hold the power through the rpm band that the hi ram is going to make the additional power.

This is just the learning motor as it will get bigger as we figure out things. I know the intake is overkill for the 5.3 but I do plan on pushing the combo as in 7k and 20+ on the boost. After we're comfortable in gettin it tuned and downthe track it will go to a 347-370 motor but it will just be a little at a time. The goal with the 5.3 is a mid 9second slip...
