Default Proper tuning sequence

When tuning a combo, what do you do first - spark, then AFR, or vice versa?
And when increasing boost, does the same sequence apply? I figure I'll be tuning at the track for MPH.

I run the Holley EFI if that makes any difference.

Afr with timing neutered.

Then timing.

Then afr again, usually yes, it'll need it.

Timing again.

Get your AFR close, and then make power with spark.

Lean with no timing = no power

Lean with timing = potential to hurt stuff.

Increasing boost, just keep an eye on it, and check plugs. I usually go up 1-3 psi per hit until I have a handle on the setup.

In some cases, that can be 40-80 hp!

Louis has it right. I didn't have to do much with my Holley unit. Just make sure the learn function is setup and set the AFR you want and let it learn. Sneak up on the timing. The auto learn is amazing, just make sure you get some data logs and plug readings to make sure it's reading correctly. I got a baseline for my car at 8lbs, took it to the dyno with the timing dialed back and made a pull at 12lbs and it picked up 120rwhp and I didn't touch the fuel map. Added timing until the torque started to drop off and ended up with a 137rwhp gain.

Thanks guys. Nice thing about the Holley is that it will keep the AFR wherever I want with the WOT closed loop, so I dont have to keep making changes to keep a desired target AFR. Just have to decide what AFR is best I guess, then spark. Running 11.5AFR and only 12* of timing at this point.
