Turbo decision help: single, twins, bb, journal, oil-less?
Hey all, I’ve been racking my brain about turbo selection and was curious about your opinions. I have a 370” LS2 w/LS3 top end, LS9 cam, 9:1 comp that will be going into my ’72 Cutlass. I’m not looking for max power, maybe 700ish at the wheels with the ability to turn it up a bit more if I get a wild hair. This will be a street car, might not ever see a drag strip but may take her to a road course to throw around the twisties. I’d like to have minimal lag and quick response and was told at one point twin 57 journal bearing turbos were the way to go. I’m fine with that but can I get a pair of slightly larger BB turbos or a single oil-less turbo and still have boost come on down low and good top end punch? I’m a FI newb and tend to overthink things like this so, yeah lol Thanks in advance, James

Twin 76s? Where do you guys come up with this stuff? He wants ~700 Hp with quick spool, not 1500+ Hp capable with slow spool.
OP, a single billet 76 will get you over 700 HP (and even 800 if you decide you need that extra oomph) to the wheels with a fast spool, especially on a 370". If you want to take it on the twisties, this is a great sized turbo, as you'll get spool at a low enough RPM to pull you pretty hard out of the corners.

Stock 5.3, twin T76s, 4L80, insta spool leaving off 1000rpm:
LOL, good luck with your back pressure goals of 2013 and beyond if you go this route.

guess what........... thats is more power than his goals.
with the proper set up you dont need HUGE ******* turbos to make power.

Thanks for the info guys, though I didnt mean for this thread to turn into a pissing match. texas, when asked if the turbos in redsled were TC76s the owner replied: "Nope. They are T-series billet 76s with 68mm exhaust and .81 housings." Though, not really sure how that compares to twin TC76s

Just my .2. People are scared to go with bigger turbos, not sure why. You said 700, but also said you'd want to turn it up in the future... buy turbos once.
