Default Need to tame my turbo exhaust

I have a 2002 Firehawk with a 404 ls2 with twin billet gt35's.

For my exhaust I have a single 4" Vibrant aluminum muffler turned down under the passenger seat. I'm running a Burkhart Torque arm, so there really isn't much room to run exhaust past that crossmember.

My exhaust sounds good except for a really bad drone at 2600 rpm.

I wondering if there is anything out there that will be quieter. I don't have much room to work with. I'm thinking about using a Borla XR1 Multicore muffler. I think I can fit that muffler. The case length of the XR1 is 16" vs 10" with the Vibrant aluminum.

I am wondering if there bill be enough difference between the vibrant and the XR1 Multicore to justify building a new street exhaust. Any help would be appreciated!!

Everything that I've read about the XR1 is that it is loud. I'd give a magnaflow a look.

4"

Didnt look like Magnaflow had anything decent in 4" or 3.5". That would fit. I know it's gonna be loud, but if it will be a decent amount better than the Vibrant I will be ok

Tail pipes make a huge difference. I originally just had a 4" split to two 3.5" magnaflows which dumped at the axle. It was absurdly loud and the drone was terrible. I put two 3" tail pipes on the car and it was hugely different. It went from being obnoxious to being a notch or two above what a stock car sounds like. The drone was gone too.

Try driving over a steel grated bridge, that will simulate you having tail pipes. Makes a huge difference

Ha, I just did that for the first time today with my cutout open. Made it sound like my cutout was closed.

Yal are for sure correct about running it out the back, but its not an option for me without a lot of hassle. My torque arm crossmber and fuel pump are directly in the path. I'll get some pics for clarification. I'm really wondering if the Borla would be quieter than the Vibrant

I have 2 of the vibrant big body reonators on my twin setup without any mufflers and they made a huge diffeace.
Your going to need a bigger muffler then a 10" long one no matter how u look at it

here is some pics of what i have to work with under the car. yes, i realize it will take more than a 10'' resonator to knock the sound down, since that happens to be exactly what I have now....lol

just think that perhaps a 16'' core borla will be better than a 10'' core Vibrant aluminum race??

I was just hoping that someone had a little experience with the Borla XR1 over the Vibrant race

I say cut your crossmember on the passenger side of the driveshaft hoop. Sleeve it at the cut. Let the guru's plot a bar with the Bickel software to make the crossmember follow the floor en route to the passenger side subframe rail.

If it was me I would buy some 4" oval tubing and go right under that crossmember. It might hang a little low in just that area but I'm sure it could be done well enough you wouldn't have and issue. Nice car btw!

Just turning it out side of the car will make a monster difference. I had a 4 banger mustang with a turn down the previous owner put on for some reason. It was ungodly loud drone. Just putting it out the side of the car angled back made a HUGE difference.

I do think that will help. We originally didnt want to do that because it would blow exhaust in the tire path, but for street exhaust it may be ok.

Cut your cross-member and weld in a 4.25" ID schedule 40/80 tube about 2-3" long. Paint and run your exaust on out. Hell I think I have about 8" of schedule 80 left, I could cut you off a about 3" and send it to you if you want to go that route.. Just make sure you keep everything lined up if you decide to go this route.

That would be an idea, but I can't run it over the axle even with the exhaust past the cross member. My fuel tank and pump is in the way
