Default Lq4?

Guys how do I tell an LQ4. Is there a casting number somewhere I can use? Also what about the heads?

Sorry for the newbie question but I'm a newbie...

I've been doing a fair bit of reading and I'm looking to source a 2001 and up LQ4 for my first build LS and Turbo build. Planning to use this build to figure out the layout in the car (64 Nova) and learn about these motors and turbos. I don't plan to do much to the motor, probably just springs/cam/headbolts... proabably about it for the first build.

Thanks Hoss, I did search and found an overwhelming amount of info! Being new I was hoping for a quick start and the stuff you sent helps.

I was reading some conflicting info about LQ4's I thought they went to LY6's in 2006 but I see that only NNBS trucks went that route while the "Classic" still had LQ4's thru 2007 1/2. Very helpful.

I also see that while the engine is new to me the detection methods are fairly similar:
"Stick a screwdriver down the hole to tell if it is dished or flat top piston" NICE!
