Default O2 sensor placement

Quick question about o2 sensors. Where are you guys putting them on your single turbo setups? I have heard mixed opinions on having them pre turbo, but how else can they work properly and monitor each bank. I currently have one in each log manifold and then a single wideband in the down pipe. I this not good?

Do not place a wideband sensor pre-turbo. The heat and pressure will affect its operation and severely reduce it's life span.

Narrowbands are slightly less fussy.

Turbo, place the wideband some 12"+ away from the turbo.

That's what I have. The two in the manifolds are for the ecu. The wideband is about 12" behind the turbo.

Do people not normally use upstream o2 sensors on turbo applications?

The sensors will not tolerate temperatures of over 750degC for any length of time, and they do not like pressure.

So pre-turbo would be a very bad choice of location, as the sensor will not survive.

I'm using HPtuners on a single setup, and I've been told countless times to put each of the upstreams in or near the manifolds.

Unfortunately with a single setup, if you want to monitor each bank then you have little choice but to fit them pre-turbo. You can leave them there, but service life will be reduced.

You can buy little extension pieces to lift the sensor out of the gas stream, and some of these have cooling fins on them to try and help dissipate some heat prior to the sensor.
