What clutch to hold 1000+HP?
I have a mcleod twin disk and it decided to start slipping at 974RWHP. My car has plenty left in it so I'm trying to see what clutches everybody is running now for a high HP street/strip turbo car.
Thanks

Mantic makes a nice product
and I like the RAM dual disk
lots of folks chose the McLeod
many of the dual disk setups are rated for 1k hp and are still streetable
I didn't like the "grabby" nature of the textralia single disk I had and went with an automatic
I think if I had converted over to a decent dual disk I might have changed my mind. but I do like the way the ttix and auto work together

spec clutch, my car. ^^^
Another car later,...about 4 clutch setups later... I now have this.
I ended up with a Tilton 7.25″ 4-Plate Carbon OT-II Racing Clutch. It's pretty sick. Your supposed to be able to slip it to kingdom come...so,..we'll see. It weighs about 14.7lbs with flywheel attached.
Based off what I have seen/learn and installed on manual cars(which is my bread and butter)I would recommend a MCLEOD for just about any setup. They pretty much have the clutch you want, for any car. Honestly they're customer service is awesome...they will truly help you out with any and all questions.... very great company. Unfortunately my $6,000++ Tilton, doesn't come with nearly the same sort of customer care. When I call them with setup/questions.... they refer me to one of their vendors......
So, Mcleod, I would recommend. I like my textralia exo skel but the twin disc didn't hold my power. Sub 1000 hp no problem though.
Call Mcleod...talk to I think "Paul"..he's the owner.

^^^^That's not the point. The point is that an LS7 would slip its *** off before it could even do that to itself at 1000hp.
I will say that alot of companies have come a long way in making good clutches because back in the day, all you had was SPEC, McLeod and centerforce for LS stuff.

that sucks but What does your spec clutch failure have to do with an LS7 clutch holding 1000RWHP?
So what? an LS7 clutch is not designed to handle anything close to 1000RWHP end of story

When you have a pressure plate failure twice, in 2 weeks, 2 separate cars, to separate installers, 2 separate conditions, 1 common denominator=spec. Actually, 2 common denominators, both had SPEC, both cars were total losses, due to SPEC clutch products.
I would run a stock LS6 clutch and HATE life before I would run a **** PILE SPEC PRODUCT is what I mean since logic doesn't grace everyone.
RAM has been in the game as long as SPEC has when it comes LS cars. I have also had them. RAM is good to for most setups. Mcleod is the best I have seen when it comes to working/customer care.
Chances are, I have changed more clutch setups then most people. I have a garage full of take out spec clutchs and textrailia exoskels. I think I have even a ram laying around.
trust me, I use and test clutch assemblies more then you'd ever want to.
moral of "my" rant, is to advise people of SPEC products and to steer them away from them.
You like your legs, don't you? Ever have a pressure plate explode at 5,000 rpm?
