Default lsx turbo is the only way to go.

just thought id come and tell you guys again how happy I am that I switched to fi turbo in my nova. it has been the best thing iv ever done to one of these old cars and I have owned about 30 muscle cars. the help from you guys and videos by denmah have been a life saver . id have made it on my own but not as easy or cost effective. I don't see myself ever building anything but an ls engine again.

I haven't made it to the track yet. but that doesn't really matter as I know it will run very well but it will drive there like a stocker.

thanks again.

Default LSx Turbo info..

Congrats! I'm looking to build an LSx Turbo for my Rx7 soon. What costs should I anticipate as far as engine components go?

well I did a rebuild on the engine and spent a little more than I could have on a cam pushrods, comp rockers and springs. so if I whould have ran a stock engine id be less but I ended up around 3 grand in the conversion. did all the work myself this is a hobby for me so I like the learning curve. what I ended up with is

6.0 engine rebuilt with 206/212 cam and good valvetrain
forward facing truck manifolds , 2.5 hotside
tc-78 turbo with 3.5 downpipe exaust housing
microsquirt ecu built my own harness
80# injectors, truck intake.
new fuel lines and bosch 044 pump,
3000 stall convertor and 3.23 gears,

That's awesome! If you don't mind me asking did you do a full LQ4/LQ9 build or did you also have LS com pendants as far as heads and intake? I'm an import guy and made a thread looking to make 700rwhp on a 10k budget but am told that's aiming pretty high.

Look at denmah's build of fairmont v3.0. He ran 9.5 @ 145 or so. He claims $5k for the whole build.

I'm with Mike. This conversion from rat motor to turbo 5.3 has been a blast. I've already eclipsed the mph record over the rat (143+) and will eventually beat the 9.40 ET as well.
According to my dats logs, I'm right at 14.5-15 PSI. And I can turn it up more. :-)

You guys are killing me....I just ordered a PT7675 last week and hope to get the build running for next summer. I'm equally looking forward to the project and the expected results/driving fun.

i started with a complete lq4 intake to pan and all factory brackets. and used most of it . except the camshaft and components, and 80# injectors and oil pan it is a 2005 express van engine. turned the manifolds forward and cut and welded v bands on. also removed the p/s pump.

if you buy a complete engine with all hardware, change the valve springs get a good turbo on it you will get to your goal if your tune is right.

thanks

good thread-as a vet. of the old (first new car was a 67 396/375 Camaro) stock, super stock, mod. prod, brackets, etc, I have prob at one time or another had about every combo. chevy ever produced (sure wish I had that money back, lol)
I kind of evolved slow, first using Prochargers on S/B's, B/B's, then LS with Prochargers and carbs, then last year I made the jump to FI-FI was pretty demanding on my brain, so many times I wanted my carb back, lol-then I experienced the new world order, had a guy email a tune up to me, remote into my laptop-weird sitting there watching someone control it-no wonder china can cyber attack, lol
anyway, once it was dialed in, I got to experience the real deal, car was fast, ext. drivable, and pulled down over 23 MPG on the highway
now I am back to the future, trying a turbo, but will start out as a blowthru carb, prob switch to FI one day-turbo's are a whole new ball game, as anything, everybody has a diff opinion on parts selection

micro is a great price point for making these turbo cars live!

and free base tunes ftw!

nice job on wiring it youself! even that isnt bad! there are only so many wires!

batch fuel and waste spark, its crazy how well these cars run.

thanks for the honorable mention! haha

i love hearing how happy people are with the switch, and staying in a budget

your videos are the reason I didn't run a stock ecm and build a harness . not that that way is wrong but for a first time fi guy the microsquirt and tunerstudio combined with your base tunes ( thanks) is way cheaper and much easyer to learn than hptuners . and I never plan on an electronic trans so it makes sence to me. I have already picked up another 2005 lq4 and all the plugs to build a harness for the next ls turbo build. you just cant match the power and drivability of these engines when setup right.

If it wasn't for the 4L80e, I would have went microsquirt as well. Maybe after they figure out the trans controls I'll switch over. Bang for the buck, its very hard to beat MS. I used it on my SRT-4 and was incredibly happy when I learned I had multiple stage 2 steps and anti-lag.

Microsquirt does support 4L80e shifting/control. You just have to build one MS for the engine and another MSfor the trans. Wiring is pretty simple.

Just search for MegaShift.

The driveability thing is what does it for me. My 5.3 is sooooo smoooooth just normally driving around. My BBC even with a mild cam just lopes too much for me...in my mind it doesnt run right b/c of that lope...just a personal thing.

yes the drivability is where its at. I drive mine to work and up to get parts and there is no down side. the tune is very conservative but im sure it whould run in the tens the way it is. but drives and gets better mileage than my Yukon.

and you should see the reactions at my local cruise night . love it.

Almost everyone I've asked said that MegaShift still has too many quirks that need to be worked out, because it still has a few issues with the 4L80e. I think Denmah ran HPTuners on his 4L80e cars for that very reason.
