Picked up a takeout 2008 iron block 5.3 with 90k miles on it. Plan to reuse my ported heads. Sold the 799 heads for more than I paid for the long block. Hoping to see some good power out of this new combo.

Awesome build! I love to see other peoples ingenuity and hard work come to life. Keep at and don't get greedy with power. I'm just gathering parts for my first turbo build and I am gonna keeps tabs on up your progress. Good luck!

Thanks. I plan on going very convservative on the tune this go around. It was a fun car when it was out last year. Just blows the tires away regardless of speed, but still is fairly mild mannered driving around on the street.

Yeah the last engine spooled awesome. Even came up on the footbrake pretty quick. I want to say 5 psi in ~1.5 seconds before pushing through the brakes according to the datalog. Was all in on boost driving around 4000 rpm from what I remember.

Unfortunately I lost all my datalogs and tune when my computer took a **** over the winter so I'm going off of memory.

Cool build man! I thought you had a 4.8 too based off the pistons. I have never heard of all gen IV motors having flattops. Either way it'll make plenty of power though. I just picked up a 4.8 myself for a boosted setup. Good luck with this one

Yeah we replaced this engine at work due to bad lifters. It's 90k miles out of a tahoe. We checked the Vin number and it's a 5.3.

If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them. I know I read quite a few build threads in the past 5 years of building this, so I know how you feel.

Small update.

A local racer/cnc guy is working on making his own billet wheels for the S400 turbos. So in the interest in helping gather data on his first production unit I decided to make my car the test mule. Turbo is an S400 with a billet 88mm compressor wheel and a 1.32/T6/96mm hot side. Going to see what kind of power and spool it does with this high-ish compression 5.3 on E85. It sounds like if it ends up going well he may make some more of these. Either way, should make for an interesting ride.

And the timing cover, and the valley cover. Planning on doing the alternator bracket too after I get the hole for it drilled and tapped.
