Default S480 inlet clearance (enough room?)

Hey guys, I've been lurking alot and I'm not new to LS engines at all but new to turbos. As this is my first turbo build! I have my turbo placed where my battery is and the inlet side is off in the hole (corner) and wondering if that's enough room to catch air or should it be moved. I have about 4-6" before it gets to my inner fender.

It'll suck air no matter where you put it really as long as the entrance isnt physically blocked. I wouldnt like anything within 2-3" of the actual inlet though.

You certainly wont be getting a filter on it though !

Thanks for the response. Really appreciated as this is the most convenient placement I have with cutting the car to make it fit.

But so it should be fine there and is it bad not running a filter. I've seen ppl putting screens over it which I can do no problem. Will be posting my build thread later today

Just make sure any harness plugs are out of the way & tied down.

It sucks having a plug getting sucked into the compressor.

Ask me how I know...

I didn't think someone would actually ask...

86 GT, High-beam headlight removed, lose pigtail I thought I had tucked away good enough, turbo with no air filter...

Destroyed the compressor wheel & sent plastic "powdered" shavings through my intercooler.

Your engine/turbo will like sucking in stones and dirt just as much as you would...except it sucks a lot harder !

Screens filter **** all really apart from rocks which I guess is better than nothing..

But if that's all the room you have, not a lot you can do.

And as above. That thing will suck huge amounts of air, make sure there is nothing in the way that might get sucked in

I didn't know they suck that hard. Guess its time to remove the few wires from that corner and reroute or extra zip tie them down.

thanks a lot for your help

I would say try sticking your hand in front of the turbo when revving the engine....and that's it not even under load.

But if I did tell you to do it and you actually tried and lost some fingers...I might feel guilty lol

But if you do do it...video it lol

I have seen said video. Over 10yrs ago.

It was a 99+ with a 67/68mm & a buddy was standing next to the car with his hand lightly on the fender next to the turbo. It sucked it in and nipped 2 or 3 of his fingers.

Blood everywhere in the compressor housing.

You said do do...
