Angry Would you guys run this turbo like this??????????? Billet s480 Race Cover

Everything else seems to be fine. Box handle broke and well you can see the damage. Is just that small top corner, would it affect anything? What you guys think?

I'd double check the compressor wheel moves freely and doesn't hit anywhere and take the cover off and reinstall and check if everything seems right. Other than that, it shouldn't have an effect, just make sure to smooth out the impact marks/no material that could break off and get sucked in. That looks to have been a decent hit, but I have seen turbos fly before(bosses with anger issues) and survive wrecks and be okay.

You could try straightening it, but it will have no impact at all on performance.

Big turbos are heavy items, they really should be very securely packaged.

meh, highly doubt it affects much.

the thing you have to ponder over with yourself is this...did you pay for a brand new undamaged turbo? if yes, what did you actually get?

wouldnt hurt to contact the seller with a pic of the damage and see what they say. might be cheaper for them to just send you another compressor housing instead of going through the hassle of sending yours back and then shipping another complete turbo. they aint light.

Pull it off heat it up good with a torch and bend it back, then file any rough edges.

I'd definitely make sure that the wheel is balanced correctly still after a fall like that. As fast as these things spin if it out of balance just a little it can cause problems with it.

There is no way the wheel should or could have been affected by that damage.

schwitzer logo? i'm guessing it was not inexpensive.

if the shipper caused it, i'd do what I could to get them to replace it.

if you had a warranty, it's gone now because of that.

Problem is...prove the shipper caused it ?

Then fight over why it was not packaged correctly ? As if it was packaged correctly, no damage could have occurred.

It is annoying though, it should not happen, but there are simple realities.

Although a new compressor cover shouldnt cost a fortune, although it's selecting who might be to blame and foot the bill.

take the cover off, chuck it up in a lathe, and cut that first inch off. Map ring doesn't have to be that tall anyway.

Yeah it has insurance and is going to be a 3-4 week process they said. So I'm just going to cut it off on a lathe. They said have to come pick it take it to UPS headquarters have it inspected yada yada yada...... Most of the ppl I talked to and showed said it's fine. The wheel spins freely but I'll inspect it better when I get the cover off. Btw it was UPS that messed it up it wasn't like that when I got it shipped.

When the packaging is woefully inadequate for the heavy object inside, damage is inevitable. That's just an unfortunate reality.
