Default FI for California guys!

Ok so I really really wanna go FI. Turbo or procharged? I live in California and I was wondering if I would be able to pass emissions here in Cali? I'm saving up money either for a FI kit for my LS1 or a 03/04 cobra. I would do heads cams etc. but I know for sure I wouldn't pass for ****.

im going with a 408 and a d1sc looking for close to 700 rwhp.. heres the catch... if you bought your car new in 2002 and you are the original owner. i was told by our smog tech at work and one of the employees at the test only station... 2002 and up cars dont have to smog till 2008!!!! so ive got two more years to worry about it.. by 2008 i dont know what ill be doing with the car. its no longer a daily driver so its more of a toy.

Default California smog testing

Not all of California is heavily patrolled by the smog police. Up here on the Coast there are no emissions tests required except when a car is sold. As long as you own it, it will never be tested.

Any county in California that has under 100,000 residents has no smog testing. The closest one to me(I'm in El Dorado County, which is near Sacramento) is Amador county.

If you're in the SoCal area.... expect to get your car smogged very 2 years. They also have road side smog stations where they just sniff the car while you drive by and take snap shots of your license plate and mail you smog notices. =(

To stay Cali smog legal I'd go with the procharger and a very mild cam with lots of exhaust bias for the stock manifolds.

It'll pass easily and make great power.

Remember when they do the smog testing....that they only bring your RPM's up to 2500. Thats what ive been told.

The smog test is at idle and 2500rpm.

I have AFR 205's, LS6 intake, ported TB, no air pump, long tubes, dual 3" cats, TSP 233/239 .600/.603" 112LSA cam and at idle it was dirty and at 2500rpm it was clean as a whistle. It would not pass a CA smog test.. just telling you guys how it tested.

Why not run some very nice ported heads, a 224/224 114LSA cam with lots of lift and shoot a 150hp nitrous shot. That would pass smog. Nitrous isn't illegal as long as the bottle isn't hooked up. Have 2 exhausts.... one stock and the other with long tubes and nice exhaust.

BTW- I made 440rwhp thru cats.
