Default Iron block and procharged Fbody guys

have any of you guys encountered problems with the procharger bracket flexing because of only 2main bolts holding the charger in place?

just wondering because now im a little curious.

Thanks,

Tyler

I didnt like the iron blocks because of the lack of the third bolt hole by the timing cover. A couple guys here are running iron block and prochargers so I guess its OK

You have to tap the block and run the 3rd bolt.....

I didnt know about this??? How hard is it to drill/tap the hole? If i have the engine up on a stand and put the bracket on will it be pretty obvious? Any special care needed while drilling and tapping this extra hole?

i dont think you can tap it beside the timing cover... theres no meat on the block to tap it... you'd end up drilling into the front of the #1 cylinder...

That is correct. The 3rd bolt only attaches to the S/C bracket to hold the idler bearing on. I was worried about the same thing until I installed it (see white dot in pic). Just drill & tap the hole on the upper right side in the pic below. Two bolts don't seem like enough to me, but it's working....so far.

yep, tap the 3rd hole on the mid right drivers side, the ATI bracket needs this mount point. Use a drill that has a level bubble... really pretty simple, I did mine in car

Just make sure you uit the little 'L' bracket back on the alternater to the side of the block up top and it will be OK most likely. Even if you did drill and tap the hole where that white dot is withoyut hitting water the bracket wouldnt sit against it anyhow since its recessed.

This is what a LS1 block looks like..

your best bet is to call SDCE ---> and ask for their bracket support . its a bar that comes from an unused hole in the oil pan and bolts to the back of the blower , effectivly holding it in place .

Like I said if you make sure and use the small bracket that attaches the rear of the alternator to the block that will help. If you are using a SDCE setup then I wouldnt worry but if you are not then putting that much tension on the bracket may not be so good but people have done it.

SDCE doesnt ship that small brace on the bottom with their kits anymore I think, its not very strong where it attaches to the pan and wouldnt help you much really IMO. Since plenty of guys have ran prochargers on iron block I wouldnt worry too much about it.

so you have been using only the two long bolts to hold in your S/C? how long has it been holding up?
