Default 20psi, is it time for colder plugs?

i have been running "tr7"(br7ef) plugs. i am now pushing over 20psi at the track. is it time for the next colder plug or are th 7's still ok? i have a set the next colder plug, r5671a-8 wich some people like to call a tr8. i let the truck idle for a long time at the track, will the 8's foul out sitting there idleing?

Are you having any detonation?? Any Kr?? I know that ProStockJohn ran the 8's in his car when he was running 9's...You may ask him how he liked them...

You should be fine running a colder plug. You can tweak the tuning some at idle if it starts to foul.

I ran TR8's per Intmd8's reccomendation with the 9.4@143 blower combo. Once in a while the plugs would get a little fouled but I spent zero time messing with my idle tune.

I'm running AllPro heads now and run different plugs.

Ahem, I think it was my recommendation... Either way I would probably go ahead and run them for an added safety variable...

P.S. John you got the car hooking yet??

I'm running NGK PFR7B plugs. So far they seem to be working fine for me.

They are an OE Subaru fitment, gasketed double platinum plug. Ive been using them since July. Say about 2000 road miles and about 20 passes ? including a standing mile.

Must admit, havent removed them in that time to have a look at them.

Make a run on the dyno or street, shut it down at the top end and don't let it idle.

Pull a plug, post a picture of the ground strap, then cut the threaded portion off and post a picture of the insulator.

That much power I think an 8 is still too hot. you are dealing with alot of HP. 8's might be fine on the street, but a 9 or even a 10 might have to be installed to keep the detenation away.

What sort of duration are these 8's, and 9's being held at full load ? Either on track ( which obviosuly isnt very long ) or on the dyno ???

I know when I did my standing mile, duration was approx 27 seconds of WOT ( aside from 2-5 shifts ), which at the time seemed like a lifetime watching my AFR guage lol.
I had no detonation issues whatsoever. Pump fuel + meth

Guys are running them here locally for a full season of drag and big shots on them. Of course they are 10's or 11's but you get the point...They are as durable as your tune is. Its easier to get spot on with your tune with these style plugs then with what you are running or even hotter plugs.

By duration, I mean sustained full load. 2 seconds at WOT isnt going to create the same heat isues, as 30 seconds at WOT.
Similarly, 10 sec passes, wont be as harmful, or have the same heat issues as a car used for circuit racing, where there could be several minutes of WOT or close to it.

Plug deterioration over time/events is a different matter altogether.

Just a question, wouldnt it be a bad thing to shut down a turbo immediately after running it very hard.

I understand an NA motor, or blower.. the turbo???
