all the people with a fmic are still using the piece of plastic that goes on the front of the radiator at an angle to help direct airflow up the radiator?

did you have to trim it to make it fit.....

can i get a picture of it looking from the top.

this may be why i get soo hot...

I am having the same issue with my car heating up on extended drives. The TH400 doesnt help spinning the engine @ 3000rpm constantly eigther. My car has all the plastic air damn peices under the bumper removed. I am sure I am losing alot of my air to the radiaitor right there. I plan to go get some aluminum sheet and enclose the underside of the bumper soon.

there have been a bunch of threads about this in the past...A LOT of air flow to your radiator comes from that plastic thing if you take it off you will have overheating problems. i had to trim a little off the sides of mine but later found out i could have routed my pipes a different way and been good.

I don't think he's talking about the airdam underneath. I'm pretty sure he means the piece behind the windshield washer reservoir.

If that's the case, I no longer have mine. Figured with the air shooting through the nose and across the intercooler, it wouldn't be an issue.

No problems here.

you are right; but like wickedred said i have a th350 and i start heating up fast on drives... i guess i need to make one out of aluminum or find my old one..

try putting it back on or making one out of sheet metal and see if it helps with the over heating

I have the air dam under the car but thats it, mine will get hot on the highway on a hot day (220 or so) but it doesnt bother me at all, stock the fans didnt even com on until 220

Iron blocks tend to run a little hotter and unless you have the stock fans on there good luck keeping it under 210 on the highway..

mine hangs around 234F when driving it in 80F weather... i know thats not good but is a be cool radiator radiator the only thing i can look to for help?


since when i drive at any speed and the temp. doesnt drop to me that says that its not neccessarily the fans...

Its the fans, I guarantee if you put the stock fans on it would run much cooler. They move an amazing amount of air. Problem is a lot of aftermarket fan setups while running restrict the airflow through the radiator so much driving at speed doesnt help if the fans are running. And the fans are most likely running over 200 degrees. Plus once you unseal the radiatior on the sides and top most of the air from underneath is no longer forced through the radiator but around it. These cars have a dead air zone at the grille, its amazing how little air pressure is there so the FMIC and opening up the front isnt really helping anything at all.

Its not really that simple, you can try a bigger radiator but that doesnt work for everyone.

Well i dont feel so bad about my car running 218* on the interstate now. I still dont like it, but I dont feels so bad about it. I still plan to inclose the uderside of the bumper and put the air damn back on the car.

so i need to try and direct more air to the radiator by plastic/aluminum and try and seal the sides and top of it.... should i seal the top too?

i'll try to dig up the stock fans and give them a shot...

You will have to cut out the core support and move the radiator forward to use the stock fans. Not that hard really, I tried every way possible to use them with the D1 without hacking and its not possible with the stock radiator. If I was street driving my car I would just start cutting and use the stock fans..

What fan setup are you using?

KP makes a good point about using the factory fans. They are the best bet. I have my Griffen radiator standing upright and still use a Flexalite twin pusher setup. I could use the factory fans since my core support is sectioned for the Griffen unit. It would probablly make all the difference in the world.

Pusher fans work about 1/2 as well as pullers also from what I understand, always draw through the radiator if you can..

im just using the ATI fan unit.... if i have to ill try the stock radiator and do some cutting and welding then put the stock fans on with a little duct work infront of the stock radiator.... if the stock radiator doesnt keep me cool enough with the stock fans then i may look at a griffin or Be Cool replacement...
