Default maxed out mp70 on a 5.3 and stock 5.3 cam vs 2001 zo6 cam dyno numbers

set up. mp70 turbo, stock 5.3 other than springs, t400 with an overly loose converter.

first chart is a real good before and after test of a stock 5.3(blue) cam vs a 2001 zo6 cam(red). minimal variances, the numbers prety much speak for them selves. WOW!!! this is our max pump gas setting

next chart isn't the greatest comparison but you definately get the idea. we ran out of turbo so we couldn't get to the same boost level. you can see we are up 48peek hp even though we are down almost 4psi. does this seem insane to anyone cause it doesn't seem possible to me. at 6100rpm we are up 87hp even though we are down 5psi

last chart is us maxing out the turbo. there is a funny story here. we had a 6psi spring in the wg and though it might just be out of spring so we swaped in a 13psi spring. we forgot to hook up the boost refrence line to the wg , the thing should have hit 30+psi but it didn't go up at all from what we were seeing with the 6psi wg spring and the boost controler at 100%.

you can see where the boost went up some. the exhaust back presure went way up. even with quite a bit more boost we only made a few more hp. the iat's were going up quickly too. the wg was esentialy blocked off.

we are not going to run it at this maxed out setting since it is only gaining us a few hp. probably run it at a max of 15 or 16psi. right now we are likely near the limit of a pile of other things on the car so steping up to a better turbo to get more power doesn't make much sence. now iguess it is time to get this power to the ground

Less restriction, more air, more power, less boost right?

very nice results man, very nice, its good to finally be able to see the actual difference between cams when one is considering the zo6 cam as a cheap upgrade. thanks for taking the time to do this and post your results.

thanks.

i would like to see a similur test but go from a zo6 cam to a mild/moderate custom "turbo" grind.

the question for me when doing a budget set up is weather or not to step up to a custom cam or just the zo6 cam. out best time with this car was 9.49 with a small turbo and a small cam.

You want a '02-'04 z06 cam. But if you have the budget, might as well get a custom grind for your build. For a boosted motor, I would get some PRC or Patriot dual springs and some chromemoly pushrods.

Quick Reply: maxed out mp70 on a 5.3 and stock 5.3 cam vs 2001 zo6 cam dyno numbers
