Default boost with big converter

anyone here ever boost a car with a 4000 or 4000+ stall? I have a friend with a pt4400 and was told you cant throw a 100 shot(I know nitrous) to it but he does and it works..so was curious if you could do low boost with a big stall

My buddy has a Yank SS4000 with his P1SC making 4-5 lbs and he loves it. I've heard a big stall and a centrifugal supercharger work well together.

Every set up will be differant. Gearing, weight, hp, and some other factors play into stall selection. One car might work great with mild boost and a high N/A stall converter, wile another car blows right through the converter.

Only way to find out for sure is to boost it and see if the converter works for you.

I liked mine last year.... TCI superstreet fighter 3600stall.

Single T6 74mm turbo, LT1...I didnt really notice much of a change from my 3000stall I had in before, car still made boost the same. But the turbo didnt really see boost till 3800rpm anyways due to the size.

If anything next convertor I will be going to the 3200 range.

Guessing he has a little spool time. Turbo needs a load to really do its job and if you blow straight to 3800, might need even more rpm to get fully spooled.

ive got 3.73 gears, 6.0, 3000 stall, and t6 with 1.10ar

i hate my take off lol, 2.2-2.3 60's

once boost comes in it hits hard and never stops pulling, but i cant build any boost on the line and boost doesnt hit till almost or around 4000rpm

ill be switching to some 3.23's in a month or so and hopefully that will put more load on the motor and spool it sooner

my brothers ttype had a d1sc with a 4500stall he absolutly loved it, it would get 1.4-1.5 60 foots on 100% stock suspension. im going with a 5000stall on my gt35rs to make sure im spooled when i take off.

I ran my coan 8" 4000 nitrous converter last year in my rx7 with the turbo setup and also ran the same converter in my firebird a few years ago with a 355 lt1/T76 and it worked good. It did blow through it which is why I took it out for a PTC, but so far the coan was still faster than the ptc at the same boost level and 3mph faster!

I was only seeing a few hundred rpm's drop with the coan on the shifts, definitely blowing through it, went through traps around 6300rpm at 145mph with a 30" tire and 3.00 gear, lol. I'm hoping this time around the PTC works a little better, I think it will, just the first time it wasn't quite right.

I would make about 6 on the footbrake then creep in and hit the tbrake.

I had a loose converter to start...about 3500 stall. I picked up 14mph (167 to 181) by just tightening up the converter

You will be slipping and blowing through the convertor...you need engine load to spool the turbo(s) More load on a turbo motor the faster it will spool

i dont ever have to worry about the mph that your at lol. But will the rear gears change anything? going from 3.73 to 3.23....will it put more load and spool faster?, and multiply the torqe less on the line and let me brake to a higher rpm?

my converter is 3000btw but this winter i might brake down and get a 3500 stall if it wont hurt me

Just curious..kinda off topic.. but i never tried my turb setup with a stock converter compared to my yank stall but have thought about trying the stockish converter to see how it feels. Spool on mine is damn near instant with the lt1, 3k stall , 3.45,roughly3900lb chevelle and have been thinking of going tighter...i mean more load from a tighter converter just would seem more optimal.. atleast as far as a broader lower rpm range
..plus would be more street friendly...well.. who am i joking..more gas friendly..which is a joke in itself lol

mine weighs 3900 as well so that should be alot of load lol, i dont know what my timing is off boost so that might be a lil problem, and i dont know how much my cam with a 112 lsa is hurting me build boost...if any.

but from a roll it spools instantly, just trying to spool it for a good launch

only problem is a stock convertor wouldnt like the strain put on it, no anti ballooning etc. you still want some kinda slip to get the rpm's up off the line also.

like I said my next one I will probably tighten to around the 3200 range.Well see how my 3600 acts on the 370LS over my old 383LT1, nice thing is the LS motor i can rev out a bit more.
