Your opinions on a custom spec'ed turbo cam
This cam was spec'ed given the following:
3800 lbs
3800 stall
3.73 gears, 28" tires
stock short block
stock heads, meth, 10 psi
3" dual exhaust
Twin Turbo (APS)
222/222 .573/.573 114 +4
I know that I could make more with a bigger cam, but that's part of the reason for going turbo, I don't want a big cam, I have one now and it's getting old.
Opinion??

Hey,
Looks like drveablity would be outstanding. My advice also is stay around 8lbs. boost or less with stock engine. I have seen many. many, stock LS1's with 10lbs PSI ruin pistons; the favorite trick is they pull wring lands. Not safe for very long. As soon as you can i would go with a Callies/Drgon slayer crank; H-beam Compstar Rods/ and diamond pistons made for boosted applications. Really bullet proof for the street. You would have years of trouble free fun.

I think it would be a better car, with 3.42's or even 3.23's esspecially if your running a 4l60e.
If im not mistaken , building boost is pretty easy with the aps stuff? They are street oriented and fairly small? 3.23's and 2800-3000 stall.
Better driveabilty and probably faster IMo.

who is doing the tuning for the turbo kit????
What all have you bought so far for the fuel system and what gauges?? Wideband???

I think your combo will run well. If it deosnt then mine wont run good either

So what's your definition of a turbo cam because that seems about perfect to me. Reverse Split cams are usually only for cars with higher backpressure and Traditional Split cams are usually seen in supercharged cars. Obviously, they do work in a turbo car as a lot of people run stock LS1 or ZO6 cams, which have a very big difference in duration, but it hasn't really been proven or disproven if they are better or worse. Additionally, that spec cam has -3* of overlap, which is ideal for a turbo set-up, and the 114 LSA will help his spool time and upper midrange power band. Not to mention that it will be fairly docile on the street.

I know the above car... remember i lived there..
He has a 12 bolt already with 3.73's 325/50/15's .. ie (28's)
Quite a few people have done 80E's.....

I just said, I dont see why its a "turbo" cam....It fine, I d use it. I just dont put much weight in the cam or heads in most turbo cars. If your planning on 700+rwhp....ok then...and in that case, a 3800 stall will probably go to 4900..
Its weird I just made some small changes to a rear mount ss truck I did. It makes full boost (up to 15 psi ) by 2600 now...cruising down the freeway in OD just barely ease into it (not even downshift) and wam.....10-12-14psi .....goto retune a bit now.
The 4l80 is betetr gearing for you, if you put a 3000 stall in, and you make good power it will go a lot higher. I was running the tightest 9.5 vig they could make me, now with more power Im going up to the 10.5's in a lot of cars.
