No more racing for the Red Rocket
Well it's been a very tough 6 weeks getting ready to head for Memphis.
It always seems like the gremlins pop up at the worst times. We'd been testing with the 106 in the car since late last week. Finally start to make head way and have transmission issues. We don't think we can get the existing one back together fast enough to continue testing, so Tom calls Rossler. And damn if he didn't build us his super whip stage 5 glide in ONE DAY! That's ******* customer service And to take that one further, he got us a spot at a rental today at Norwalk with a hand full of pro-stock cars and other very quick machines.
We ended up swapping the 101 back on the car after deciding it's too close to leaving for Memphis without get the staging sorted out with what's obviously the wrong hot sided 106 for what we need to do.
Anyway...
This folks, is what happens when you lose a tire just past the finish line.
Luckily, we'd been testing in the left lane only and all passes were singles. Otherwise this could have been MUCH worse. Tom did an excellent job avoiding a direct head on hit, but this was much more than a glancing blow after we looked a little deeper.
The right front tire let go shortly after crossing the stripe (8.2x @ 186 pass) and the car made a hard right turn. The front corner took most of the impact, forcing the tower iinto the header on that side, bending up the front motor plate, and basically mangling most of the front suspension. The frame is bend pretty bad as best we can tell, but until it's on a rack we don't know if it's even worth salvaging. The car rode the wall for while after the rear end swung over and tagged the wall. That seems to have shoved the rear suspension out of wack as well. Car is pretty messed up, we figure it was still moving in the 160 range when it hit.
Tom is ok, the stiff neck and back were just starting to set in as we got home. So at this point, we're all just a little frustrated and disappointed. But, cars can be replaced as we all know.
We're still planning to attend the event, just more of a party mood now

Glad to hear he's ok, blowing a tire at 180+ has the potential for disaster no matter what precautions you take. Hopefully he doesn't experience any lingering effects, but it sounds like the safety equipment did its job.

Crap guys. Sorry to hear about that, but at least Tom or any one else were not injured.
She will be back up and running so no worries.
Enjoy your party trip to Memphis as well!
