Default Why run a larger supply line than pump output?

I am currently looking at my Walbro 450 which has a 3/8 output line to the top of the tank and wondering why some recommend going with a larger an8 or an10 supply line to the front? What would be the benefit? Fuel still has to flow thru a 3/8 line to get out of the tank, can anyone explain?

Friction. The longer the hose, and the more bends you use, the bigger the diameter has to be to allow the same amount of flow & pressure at the other end

Pretty much.

And even most -8 fittings drop internal diameter down much smaller than 1/2" too.
