I'm in Temple City and I've been getting really bad gas mileage for about a month or two now (since gas was at an all time high). I use to get 300-340 miles per tank, I am lucky to get 240 now. My wifes Mercedes is also getting worse gas mileage, thoguh not as drastic.

If your light is coming on, I guess is possible that your car is in Open loop mode which wastes more gas

Think of it like Windows Safe Mode (sorry I'm a computer guy, so that's the only analogy that I could come up with). Maybe an expert and chime in and correct me, but it runs much more rich to avoid leaning out to avoid detonation as it knows there is a problem / code trippage.

Find out what the check engine code is and go from there. That is seriously bad mileage. Something is obviously not right.

If you getting a code you should check that out first but high resistance in your ect will cause bad gas milage. If you have a dmm you can check it your self i think it should be somewhere around 3 volts on a car that has been sitting in a garage not running.
