Default Chroming Fuel Rails Question

So I am thinking of dipping my fuel rails, but I have heard of people sanding the black off, revealing a silver underneath and simply polishing the silver. Is this a safe idea? Or should I just spend the cash and dip them?

The black polishes right off with Mother's alum polish and a rag. No need to chrome them and spend the extra $$ unless you want to, just buff them up nice and they will look great.

well, i just lightly sanded them and used a bit of polish. Absolutley gorgeous! Chroming would have been a waste, the black came right off, and there are no scratch marks whatsoever.

They are coated for a reason...much like the brake lines. It may take a while but they will rust if not polished religiously.

The tubing of the rail is aluminum, so yes it can be polished, and no it will not rust.
However, the hold-down brackets and injector cups are steel, and will rust.

If you do chrome the rail, make sure you tell the plater to protect and NOT chrome the stub where the quick-connect fuel line attaches. I had a hell of a time getting my fuel line to fit after chroming, due to the additional thickness the plating added. I had to sand the plating off before the fuel line would slip on.

Sorry, I should have been more clear on my description.

When people polish the rails, they generally polish everything and that's where the trouble lies. I polished mine before sending them off to be chromed because of the rust on the brackets. It all depends what you want to put up with as far as up keep.
