Default 3.73s on my stock 10 bolt

Well, like the title suggests, I am prolly gonna get some 3.73 gears pretty soon, and am wondering if I should wait until I can get a 12 bolt to get the 3.73 gears. I have heard that it is easy to break a 10 bolt. It is a bolt-on car that will be running some drs at the same time. Do you guys think it will work out okay or should I be worried?

Well the gears will set you back what, $1xx? A 12 bolt will set you back ..$2xxx so if I were you, id just throw them in the 10bolt for now dont worry about something down the road thats such a expensive upgrade. Idk if your m6 or a4 but either way, especially a4 you should be fine for a decently long time on the 10bolt.

Alright guys good deal. And yeah it's an a4 with the 2.73s. Killer highway gears, but leave alot to be desired from a dead stop. I'm thinking the motive 3.73s for the series 2 carrier plus the master install kit. Now the only problem will be after this is getting my speedo recalibrated, and my shift points adjusted.

Here is a link to what I am looking at, http://www.speedinc.com/cont.cfm?cid=C0000212 gears
http://www.speedinc.com/cont.cfm?cid=C0000213 master install kit

What do you guys think?

You should be just fine running the 3.73's especially w/ a A4. I've ran my 10 bolt with 3.73's hard w/o any issues. My buddy has a A4 with 4.10's and he has tracked it for the past 3 years with MT's and a 4000 stall on the stock 10 bolt and it has held strong. If it goes it goes. Some of them might actually surprise you as to how long and how much they can handle and last.

3.73's are a great gear... my rearend held together for atleast 3 years with a ton of hard driving... i just recently bought a new rearend because the rear yke was getting too loose for comfort... enjoy the 3.73's (tires disappear quicker too)

Is it possible to stuff an 8.5" ring gear carrier into the 7.5" housing? Is that a viable altenative? I haven't heard of anyone doing that. So I'm assuming it's a no go. But I had to ask.
