Zexel Torsen "Heavy Duty" (T-2?) vs T-2R
SLP has these "Heavy Duty Torsen" units on sale.
I asked them if this was the T-2R and the guy
who wrote back said no, they are the T-2, and
the "T-2R has a lighter preload to transfer torque
faster". Now, I didn't think the regular Torsens
had any preload at all, and that our F-body
stock Torsen was a T-2. This answer seems
a little fluffy to me.
So I was wondering whether anybody here has
this "heavy duty" unit that SLP's selling, and knows
about what makes it worth the extra bucks ($399
on sale). I'm especially interested in knowing about
maximum torque bias/split and preload (wheel on
ice, does the other one push?).

So what I've heard there are three T-2's out there. First is the OEM T-2's that come stock... They are designed for mass production, so they are a little skimpier, to cut costs. Then there's the "real" T-2 which is touted as heavy duty.. Its basically the same thing, except they made it stronger, so thats why its more expensive.
The T-2R is preloaded, so if one wheel totally loses traction, it will still transfer tq to the wheel with traction.. vs the T-2, when one wheel loses traction it will act like an open diff and continue to spin the loose tire. Plus I beleive they have a higher tq bias ratio, so it'll moer agressive transfer tq to the sticking wheel before it gives up.
I'd say just go for the T-2R (about $500 or so)... Only place that I know that sells them are Global West and stranoparts.com.. Sam's a great guy to ask questions about for handling. You'll love how it feels when you power out of a turn with a T2R.

Which unit is the one that sells for 99? i bought one a few months back after i blew out my old one for a quick fix. After about 10 passes on DR's the sucker is holding but makes a lot of noise and vibration.

A stock "take out" diff from the Firehawk/SS program.
