Default what to "paint" my rear with

My 9" from MWC is going to be here soon and iw ant to leave it bare metal. Some people have told me that i will rust, which i never thought about. I know i just want to clear coat it so it stays the metal silver (i loooove the look of nice welds and bare metal). Will any clear do or is there a special one that will work with the metal

Probably any will do, none will last.

Just too bad they don't make it in a satin finish.

standard automotive clear coats will not adhere to bare metal. clear powdercoat is the best way to "clear" bare metal. but depending on where you live, you may or may not have some rust start to form way later down the road

x2, you could probably get away with just using one of their starter kits.

I'd go grey myself.

Unless you are familiar with painting things I personally would take it to a professional shop and tell them what you want and see what they can come up with. It would be a shame to spend a lot of money on something and for a look you want leaving it unprotected to rust.

get it powdercoated or professionally primed and painted if you want it to last. bare metal need an etch primer, primer/sealer ( epoxy is the best ) then paint/clear if you want it painted. personally i'd get it powder coated. good luck on whatever you choose

What ever you do remember to clean the material off very well because it is covered in a oil type of residue to keep it from rusting.

okay as bad as this is going to sound i have a boner for bare metal/welds and work of that sort, which is why i want to leave everything natural. I was talking to my neighbor, who has been painting cars/parts for a very long time and he said to check this stuff out and he would help me put it on

Same here.

The starter kit comes with everything, cleaner, prep, coating, gloves and brushes. I haven't used it yet, but it seems pretty awesome.

that looks like it'll fit your requirements. I just hope you're not in CA so you don't get cancer using it.

I used VHT epoxy chassis paint. Got it at advance auto. Its tough stuff. 2 cans will get you a good 2 coats on your rear axle.
