8.8 28 spline axle
So, I have a 28 spline 3:73 geared 8.8. But the fbody axle is to small of diameter to fit the 8.8 spider. Anyone run into this before? I thought the axle from an fbody would fit a 28 spline 8.8 carrier.
I have never put one of these rears together with factory axle so this is a first. My friend had me put a conversion together, but was wanting to keep the cost down until after school. Any help is much appreciated.

The tag on the 8.8 was wrong! I removed the side and spider gears from the carrier and counted the teeth. 31.
So, now I'm wandering if I can simply change the side and spider gear to 28 spline gears. Any one know? Or where to look to find out
Thanks

Damn. That's not cool. Monday Ill have to find out for sure. This sucks, because I put new bearings on the carrier. I have a new 31 spline carrier set up I could have used.
Thanks for the reply Hiltsy

I thought of using my stock axles with an 8.8 swap, then I read the axles are not quite the same in the c clip area. I forget the exact difference, but I remember reading that the c clip doesn't engage quite right. I plan on ordering custom axles from Moser when I get to that point and would suggest you do the same. Why put this much effort into it and then cheap out on $400 for axles?

Cheep out? That much effort?
I built the rear over the weekend for a friend. The rear in his car ( only car) is almost done. Building the housing is easy. I tried to save him a few bucks by using a 28 spline rear, only the tag on the Rear was not correct. Just attempting to keep it simple until after winter ( Christmas )
